[quote=Dr.Nikon]Bring your own SD card to Costco ..., insert it into both cameras .. Format it ...take shots in the store .., ]

Take an SD card for each camera brand. You can't use the same one on the same visit. Each camera will reformat the card and you will lose what you had. Maybe this is obviuos but I thought I would throw it out here becasue it may not be obvious as some would think. Just trying to help.

go to 500pix.com, click on landscape, and click on popular. Tell me that you can identify a canon from a Nikon.

Faster AF, better WB, more DR etc... are all more advantageous yes. But it isn't like canon has no info in the files.

I wasn't suggesting one brand was better than the other, or that one could tell reliably which camera system took a specific image. I was only replying to your earler comment which seemed to imply that there was no advantage to having a wider dynamic range. Clearly your comment in this post confirms we're on the same page.

Do you have a lot invested in one brand of glass?
If you are shooting RAW incamera processing is of no import.

Bullshit. Image quality for both are outstanding. I guess you think all of those professions and artists who shoot Canon have low-quality images.

You are simply wrong. The D7200 has better image quality. Maybe you own Canon or you are just an idiot. Either way, you're dead wrong. Next on your agenda should be learning to read with comprehension. I realize this is a common weakness on this site.

I sell cameras and teach 3 photography classes so the truth is that they are both excellent. Canon is the largest Camera company there is, and Nikon is almost the same. Quality is equal and as many have already said, it's a matter of personal choice. I shoot a Canon 5D SR and it is a dream to use, my girlfriend shoots a Nikon and is super happy with it. Good Luck

The quality is not "equal". The D7200 has better image quality. Period.

I'm a Canon shooter, as you know, but I agree that the sensor of the D7200 is much superior with wider dynamic range and no filter. But you also mentioned Canon ergonomics, and for me the ergonomics and feature set of a camera are just as critical to the results I'm seeking. I find that Canon bodies just meet my needs better. I tried the D7200, a terrific camera by almost any standard. But, as much as I wanted to get it, I did not like how it felt in the hand, I also didn't care for the the location and functionality of many of the controls and I especially disliked the menuing system. I'm sure many Nikon shooters would say the same thing in reverse. Few products of any kind are 100% perfect for everyone, and almost every purchase decision I've ever made required compromise to one degree or another. Its just great to have to all those options
I'm a Canon shooter, as you know, but I agree that... (show quote)

Exactly. That's why I couched my reply in that manner. You will be one of the few in this thread who gets it.

Image quality is subjective. Both cameras will give satisfactory photos. The 80D has better video controls and an articulated LCD screen while the D7200 feels more solid and less "plasticy".

Image quality is not subjective. If you can't tell the difference between a fuzzy image and a sharp one, that's your failing. I hate this relativist crap. Go shoot your disposable Kodak and come back when you grow up.

The Nikon D500 is a wonderful idea, but I'll have to digger deeper into the mine.....but....it is not out of the question. Thanks !

It may be. But that is irrelevant to the OP.

What an ignorant post. DR is not everything. In fact, it has nothing to do with image quality. Looking at your pictures specifically, I would skip Nikon.

Obviously, photography is not your calling because image quality means so little to you. Both your comments and photos prove that point conclusively. However, I would guess you could easily qualify for mental disability. May I suggest you visit your nearest Social Security office as soon as possible.

No, it isn't (simple). DR is not the only variable that determines image quality, especially when most output/viewing devices (displays and printers) have substantially less dynamic range than either recent Nikon or Canon bodies.

Yeah, it is. The D7200 has better image quality than the 80D. Simple fact that you and a few other idiots will not accept. I understand.

Even if your right, and I do not agree with you, you need to learn to express yourself without offending readers.
What are your criteria? In the real world I have seen no discernible quality difference in the two brands.

If you feel switching brands will have a positive impact on your photography, then go for it, get the Canon. But I think the "refreshing change" you are seeking will be short term, as both cameras are fairly similar, and the images they produce will be about the same once you get used to the camera's menu and controls layout.

I totally agree. Have been a Canon person since the A-1 in film days, the the Rebel T1i and went to a Canon 70D last year about this time. GREAT camera!
On a pure whim, picked up the Nikon D7200 - my first Nikon this past March (Refurb at Adorama) Having been a Canon person for so long, people assumed that I hated Nikon (as I'm sure you know the legend goes), I'm glad i did this - it showed me that Nikon is also a great camera!

It's also almost a quandary as to which camera I take on my trips. Almost as the only difference is that the Nikon has one lens an 18 - 200mm telephoto, and the Canon has the glass collection from the Rebel days.

The Canon 80D has a few perks up from the 70D that pretty much equates it with the Nikon D7200.

The next camera will probably be a Canon, maybe the 90D or 100D - although there's a lot of great features in the 70D; I am sure that this is a keeper for a good while!

I have probably bought my last Nikon - but I'm very glad i did. (I'll probably not only use it to the hilt, but it will also be my first, last and token Nikon)

I'm too old to start collecting Nikon lenses, and my Canons so far are also great

Okay, I know everyone has seen or participated in this discussion before, but I'm new here, so indulge me.

I'm looking at the Canon EOS 80D kit versus the Nikon D7200 kit currently on sale at Costco at a fantastic savings over other most retailers.

I've always gone with Nikon products but am now leaning toward Canon for a refreshing change in my photo life.

What are your opinions about this in general, and in these particular cameras in particular?

D500 16-80 f2.8-4 combo. Then a 200-500 as soon as possible.

With All due respect , It is not the Camera that takes the Photo and pretty much most DSLR's are equipped to do Great captures , like it was said earlier it is a matter of personal feel and taste, and how you plan on useing your Camera! Cost is the only other concern.
