I am undecided as to which camera to upgrade to from my T2i, whether to choose the 7D MK II or 80D. Any advice???

PHRubin - this topic has been discussed several times recently. Go to the top of the page, click on Search" and enter something like "Canon 80D" and check out various threads that include a discussion of both cameras. /Ralph

Coupla questions. Why do you want to change cameras? Is $500 important to you? Do you shoot action, BIF etc.? Answers. If the T2 is doing everything that you need it to do, you don't need a new camera. The 80d is $500 less than the 7d2. If you shoot action stuff the 7d2 is a must. If you do not have a slew of canon glass take a look at the nikon 500D as wll

I want to change cameras for 2 reasons. The focusing in live view is very slow in low light, if it works at all. Second but less important, there are times when an articulating view screen would be most helpful, like when the camera is held above your head in live view, although this comes up rarely. I don't know what BIF means but I haven't shot action.

I rarely print my photos so full frame is not important to me. I have not only lenses, but a 550EX strobe (which also works with my SX50)

I have a 7DII. It is an excellent camera, but from what I have read, the 80D will do most of what the 7DII will, and possibly a few things that it won't. The 80D doesn't have the more robust build and excellent weather sealing of the 7DII, but unless you plan to shoot in the rain or abuse the camera the way the pro's often do, those things won't be a factor. The 7DII also has a higher frame rate, but since you say you don't shoot action or BIF (Birds In Flight), that too isn't much of a factor. As far as image quality, I would pretty much guarantee you that you won't be able to tell the difference between the two. I would suggest you get the 80D and use what you save towards your next lens.

As an owner of both the 7D II and the 80D and based on what you have posted, I'd say the 80D is what you are looking for. It sports Canon's newest generation APS-C sensor with more resolution and better dynamic range that the 7D II, does a few things the 7D II's software hasn't been upgraded to do yet, is lighter and although not as well weather sealed as the 7D II can be used in most any environment a non-pro photographer would find themselves in. I like both cameras but for the day to day, walkabout, general photography, I grab my 80D far more often than the 7D II. The 7D II excels in high speed stuff like action sports or birds in flight so it's more of a specialty camera, the 80D is more of a general purpose camera, and it does really nice video.

If you NEED 10fps, the 7D II is the body you must have. Otherwise, the 80D is a much better choice overall, plus it does have the articulated screen you want. Its 24MP sensor is also better dynamic range and higher ISO capable than the 20MP 7D II.

MT took the words out of my response ... I happened to read Rockwell's 80D review last night too which is very positive on the 80D.

OK - from all the responses I have decided that the 80D with a good lens is my choice. I didn't mention that wi-fi is something I could use, and I don't too much care for GPS.

Thanks. I was guessing something in focus.

Wonder if there is a glossary of these terms.
