Nice boat, poor lighting.

There's probably a presentable shot in there somewhere, if you can do something about the unfavourable lighting.

Just couldn't get the colors to give me the effect I wanted. I cropped a little, adjusted contrast and sharpness, plus a little burning and a little dodging.

I keep forgetting that B&W is a possible answer when colours or lighting are proving difficult. You might like to know that that's Ben Nevis on the left (the UK's highest mountain). Thanks for contributing, SonyA580.

Couldn't work from the DNG as it wouldn't load. Edits made with Viveza 2, Perfect Effects and Topaz 5 HDR.
Cropped.

Very nice edit, Gaylord. It's very similar to an edit I did of a similar shot (so it must be good ). Thanks for contributing.

Thanks for letting us play, R.G. Here's my version. Click download for full effect. (That seems to go for everyone )

Let's try a colour blast, all in Lightroom.
Thanks for letting us play with your image. I enjoy trying different effects in p.p.
I have just moved house and have been without internet for a bit. Started getting the heebie-jeebies, withdrawal can be a terrible thing.

You're welcome Shakey. You've addressed one of the issues that I struggled with, which was getting strong, solid colours on the shadow side of the boat. I used lots of contrast there but you've given me the idea to try more saturation on that area. Thanks for posting.

Hi Al. Glad I could help with the heebie-jeebies. "Colour Blast" must be a new technique that I haven't heard of . Whatever it is, it's effective .

Perfect sample for HDR. This makes the shadows brighter and bright areas darker.

I think this is the best of the bunch so far. Would a GND filter help?

Are you talking about shooting or post processing? It looks like the brightest bit is across the middle rather than from top to bottom, so with a GND filter the top of the image would probably need lightening a bit, but it would have made the shadows brighter and easier to extract details and colour from. Do you fancy having a go at an edit yourself?

You're right, Mieves. Funnily enough, most of the shots I took during that break were bracketed, but this scene wasn't obviously in need of HDR treatment, so I only have single exposures of it.

I'm sure it would and thank you for mentioning this filter. Similar results can, of course, be had in Raw editing.

I forgot to mention that I added a Sepia tone filter in my post.

R.G.
If you will forgive the pun, I went in a slightly different tack in your fine composition of a forlorn boat.
