IF I were just starting - - I would look seriously into the Nikon D500. It has KILLER reviews.
You could start with that AND a budget based lens - like an 18-200 or something, then grow into better glass as $$$ permit.
Having said that - - I currently own Canon. Depending on your budget, the Nikon D500 is about TWICE the cost of the Canon 80D
I currently own a Canon 7D Mk-1 AND a whole stable of EF and EF-S lenses. The Glass is what locks you into a particular Camera Manufacturer.
Make no doubt about it - - what you spend on your lenses will dwarf what you spent on the body !!
Having said that - - I am hoping for Canon to have a Veterans Day Sale on their 80D. I'd like the upgrade from my 7D Mk-1.
The articulating screen on the 80D, improved sensor, improved autofocus, built in WiFi, etc, etc will be greatly appreciated.

As a new be I have just got done reading all about how to pick the best dslr. I spent months of reading and so on. I picked the Nikon D3300. To make it short I had read that you can buy a cannon d5 full frame for under $500 If I was you I would look into this. After all what we want is the best pictures

The decision between full frame and cropped sensor is a whole different can of worms. I too have a D3300 and am looking at either full frame or the top of the line cropped sensor. I saw photos yesterday from an African Safari done with full frame and they obviously were cropped but oh what detail. My mouth was watering! Reality tells me that I need to be practical in my choice of upgrade both from a monetary point of view and physical limitations.
But on another note, at least I don't collect expensive cars! LOL
