I've lived in Michigan all my life, (I'm 52) and this is the first time I've been here... and it's only 2 hours away from me!
It's like Michigan's own paradise! So breathtakingly beautiful!

Climbing the sane dunes; the sand was so incredibly hot until the first rise that we almost got our feet blistered, and it was even hotter on the way down. Next time we'll know better and bring water shoes or sneakeres to wear.

I visit Northern Michigan at least once a year (I was born in Michigan but moved to NC when I got married to a southern beauty). The Sand Dunes remind me of a saying they have in Japan, "If you visit Japan and don't climb Mt. Fuji, you are a fool. If you climb it twice, you're an even bigger fool." Everyone should climb the sand dunes at least once. It's more fun when you're a kid and can run pell-mell down the hill taking huge, long leaps on the way down. Gravity helps going down, not so much going up.

Very nice series Wendy. All are beautiful, but I'm especially fond of the last two. I like the light and shadow patterns and the nice framing by the trees.

The view of Lake Michigan from the top of the dunes is awe inspiring. We frequently have visitors from Europe and always bring them here. The are usually astounded, as there are no fresh water lakes in Europe where you can't easily see the opposite shore. My visitors invariable wonder if this is some kind of oceanic salt water.

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone!

I'll definitely be going back there! I wanted to take the hike from the Dune Climbs to the lake, but my daughter in law was not in good enough shape to make the long trek.

I'm thinking a fall road trip would be awesome!
