A very cool and refreshing series Andrea. A woodsy setting and moving water is hard to beat. Butterflies makes it even better. I like the compositions and the way you handled the waterfall exposure. All very pleasing.

Thank you Carol for your visit and kind comments. I am always drawn to heavily wooded rivers and creeks because of the play of light and shadows. I just find it very calming. I am glad you liked these.

Your butterfly is a male Red-spotted Purple (Limenitis arthemis astyanax): http://www.carolinanature.com/butterflies/rsp.html

Thank you Nikonian for identifying my butterfly. This and a female were on the path to the waterfall. They kept fluttering around but would land frequently so I was able to get several exposures of them. I thought it rather strange activity but was happy to take advantage of it.

I went out to a local state park yesterday, Stone Mountain State Park to wander around and see what I could find to take pictures of. This is a varied set so please enjoy.

I love your waterfalls, and the area looks a lot like Dupont State Forest in the western part of the state. Can't figure out who in the world named a iridescent blue butterfly with orange spots a Purple Red Spot though.....maybe someone who was color blind?

Thank you AuntieM for stopping by. These images were all taken in Stone Mountain State Park which is in Wilkes County west of Elkin. It is a great place to go hang out with a camera and this is actually only one of two falls there. I prefer this one for photographing. I have been to Dupont and need to get back there again but have been hampered this year by medical issues. I agree with your take on the naming of the butterfly!!!
