One thing that often gets me, that doesn't concern the plate themselves, are the frames that go around plates,
often from the car dealership for advertising. Many of them cover the name of the state, and I can see where
it would drive cops nuts trying to figure out what state the plate is from if they want to run a 'check' on it or
whatever. That is amplified, too, by the fact that states now offer so many different personalized varieties of
plates, etc. I've been wondering for a good while now just why someone hasn't done something to make them
illegal or something. Just my opinion - - and, yes, I know what they say about opinions . . .

I never let the dealer put his advertising on my car. I tell them to remove it or no sale.

I know what you mean - - they aren't paying us anything to advertise for them, so why should we . . !?
I do have two dealer plate-frames on my vehicles, but I turn them around so just the slim trim is showing.
I think it looks better than having just the loose plate hanging back there.
Dealer stickers, usually stuck on the trunk or rear bumper, are something that I take off as soon as I can, too.
I often laugh to myself when I see people driving something like a Chevy with a Ford-dealer sticker on it.

"Sometimes the drivers find a way to outsmart the authorities."

"I always thought it would be funny to have a license plate that read, "11111111." Imagine a cop trying to read that and get it right. I assumed it would not be allowed, but one day I saw such a plate."

There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary, and those that don't.

I've thought of that, too. In the old days, there was one basic plate for each state. Now you can get all sorts of designs, so you can't tell at a glance what state the car is from. Two things I've noticed about those plate frames: they don't always say where the dealer is; many frames advertise online car sellers, so there's no actual location.

When I was a kid, it was common for dealers to drill two or more holes in the trunk lid and attach a metal plate for advertising. Even at ten years old, I knew that was a bad idea. The next step was to put a sticker on the rear of the car. Now they just use the plate frame.

Quick quiz: What is the only state to have serifs on its license plates?

Virginia

North Carolina as of Dec1 2009.....
The law specifically mentions important data on a license plate that must not be covered, including the state name and the vehicle's year and month stickers, which are placed in the upper left and right corners of the license plate.

Do they actually wright you a ticket......lol I really doubt it

Many years ago I saw a car from Utah with the place: FU2 and another one on a really snazzy foreign sports car from either NY or NJ that said: HIT MAN

Here in Arizona you have to write out what the letters mean on the application when you apply for personal plates.
