I am a long way from being a pro but the 24-105 sound really good but I don't have one yet so I would use my 90mm.

24-105 will cover the walk around. Not sure how close to the band but with a crop sensor it should be plenty long as you seem mobile. Then an ultrawide for those cool shots of the bikes up close and personal. I do not see much call for a long lens as you seem from your description you have close access to the events and displays. A long lens would be a lot to carry and be pretty worthless for 95% or more of the shots.

I think that the OP is looking for a prospective shift or a reinforcement. Man can I honor that.

28-300 for sure. It's always my go-to lens.

I believe the purpose of the question was not to find out which lens to use but to spark a conversation, to elicitate an exchange of thoughts and ideas...

you've been invited to shoot your buddy's band at a motorcycle club event and you are sure to be asked to shoot some bikes with or without riders on them. Whats the first lens you think to use on your full frame camera ??

I should add that it is daylight into prime light of evening time event. Walk around shooting bikes and band. Hoping someone might wish to book a shoot from it, but...... I am there for the music anyway.

I plan to carry a small bag or at least have it with me. I will mount the 5dm3 as well my 7dm2. Just wondering what you would take with and plan to use most.

Thanks in advance.
you've been invited to shoot your buddy's band at ... (show quote)

On the 7DII i'd take the 15-85mm

On the 5DIII i'd take the 24-70mm or the 24-105mm
