Since it's only a walk around shoot the 24-70 and only one camera would do it for me. Let's see some images when you get a chance.

It will probably be crowded and you might have a problem with shooting from any distance. I think I might bring my 16-35mm f/2.8. Especially with two bodies - on your crop sensor it becomes a 26-56mm. The reality of shooting an event like this is you usually can't back up too much with a longer lens, but you can usually get closer to your subject with a wider one.

I've been shooting such events and carrying both apsc and ff. My go to lens for 80% of the shots people love are the super wide angle stuff. I have a Sigma 8-16 f4.5-5.6. 8mm is the preferred shot , which is approx 12mm on ff. Rent the canon 11-24 if you have the confidence of getting right in the faces of the people and band your shooting. It's perfect for a full stage shot also. Then a 50mm prime F/1.4 or a 70-200. I never thought I'd use a super wide angle as much as I do but these are the money shots people are loving. Then the 70-200 for the head shots of the band members. The 50 is great for low light or body and subject combo. So a 24-70 would really be more versatile with less isolation. You have to decide your style also. I wish Nikon had the 11-24 so I'm getting me the 14-24 f2.8. I looked at the Tamron 15-30 f/2.8 VR. I really liked it but it wasn't quite as wide as I wanted. Maybe that would be the perfect first lens to grab for ya then a 50 or 85 mm. Just think about how much room your gonna have , what you want your shots to look like . For doing such events my dream setup is going to be (apsc) Sigma 18-35 and the Sigma 50-100 both f/1.8. Then (ff) Nikon 14-24 f2/.8 ,70-200 f/2.8 and a 50mm f/1.4 sigma art. I carry all this right now (kinda) I don't have the Nikon 14-24 or the Sigma 50-100. Have have different lenses and close to the same weight with a laptop thrown in. I'm really beat up and still able to handle all this. But some days really lighten the load with just one camera and two lenes. Oh I also throw in two sb700 flash guns and a ton of batteries. Remember these days are usually very long so kinda be in shape.

If it were an all outdoor event, my 28~300. If the band is playing indoors, my 35mm F/2 along with my 28~300.

you've been invited to shoot your buddy's band at a motorcycle club event and you are sure to be asked to shoot some bikes with or without riders on them. Whats the first lens you think to use on your full frame camera ??

I should add that it is daylight into prime light of evening time event. Walk around shooting bikes and band. Hoping someone might wish to book a shoot from it, but...... I am there for the music anyway.

I plan to carry a small bag or at least have it with me. I will mount the 5dm3 as well my 7dm2. Just wondering what you would take with and plan to use most.

Thanks in advance.

I'd bring a couple of zooms. Probably my 24-70 and my 70-200

These are my two "go-to" lenses for my FF. As for which I'll have on what camera, it depends on the situation. If you're expected to get a lot of candids, then I'll go with the 70-200 on the 5D3 because it allows you to shoot up close without being intrusive. If I know they'll be posing and will have plenty of cooperative subjects, I'll use the 24-70 on the 5D3, and be sure to have flash handy.

Basically, I want the lens I anticipate using the most on my best camera body. Not knocking the 7D2, but for stills and the relatively slow motion of this event, why not the 5D3?

5DIII with the 24-105L/4 is all you will need. One body, one lens.

I'm going to give you easy answer since you have all this great gear and your asking this question. Use the lens you are the most comfortable with, if you have a 50mm 1.4 but you haven't used it much you might not use it to its ability very well being creative. But for any concert I will always bring my fastest lens . At the end of the day it is all about your style. So if your style is shooting wide open with a 70-200 2.8 then that is the lens you should be using.

24-70mm on FF, 18-55mm on APS-C, and 12-35mm on Micro Four-Thirds format.

I just left on a two-week trip (business, not pleasure) and brought the 5D3 and 35mm f/1.4 L II, an extra battery and,....... that's it. Nothing else needed or wanted.

You own a 5dm3 and a 7dm2 and you don't know what lens to take?
