I purchased my first digital camera(D70) from an outfit in New York, maybe Brooklyn. The sales person told me I needed a charger @ 178.00.I asked him if the charger comes with the camera. He assured me that it didn’t.When the camera arrived it had a charger in the carton.I called the store, they asked for the order number.I held on for maybe 20 minutes. After two days of trying to speak with someone about the charger,I gave up.I called American Express to withhold payment. They suggested that I send documentation regarding the purchase.I went online to copy the ad for the camera. It had been reduced by $100.00.I copied that.I also made a copy of the Contained in the carton.

I submitted all the printet information. After a few weeks past,I received a credit for $278.00.$100.00 for the price drop, and 178.00 for the charger.I sold the other charger on Ebay.If the had a better atitude, the could have saved the cost of the charger.I would have sent it back.

I now use B&H and sometimes Adorama.

What company/store did you deal with. Others may want to avoid them.

Hi GEEJAY: It never ceases to amaze me how companies that avoid caring for their customers and by doing so lose potentially vast amounts of money in future business had they just handled the situation when it arose. Now have they not only lost your business and any future but also now the potential business of many forum users here. I suppose that is why companies like B&H, Adorama and KEH come so highly recommended by users here at the UHH. I knoe I for one wouldn't have learned about them except through satisfied users here. Conversely the members that have had a bad experience sound the clarion abiut cheats and poor service companies... Thanks for sharing your experience.

No personal experience, but I've seen this posted a number of times. It is not uncommon for them to take everything out of the box and sell it all piece by piece; low price for the body and heavy markups on the battery, charger, cables, etc. Selling grey market items (with expensive add-on warrantees) is also popular.

I feel you cannot go wrong with Adorama and B&H.

You should have gone to B&H at 9th Ave and 34th.

Customer service has gone downhill for a lot of businesses, and word of mouth is the best advertisement!

I Like Amazon.com when ordering after I go to the sites like B&H, etc... to get a full understanding what I want an what I need the latter being of the importance NOT what the company wants me to have!!!!!

I had a "small" encounter with the seller in question many years ago. They lie, and then they lie about lying, and they have no ethics or remorse. I actually dropped a subscription to a major photo magazine because they continued to accept advertising from this outfit.
Many years later, they and others still exist, proving over and over that P.T. Barnum was, of course, right. They cntinue to exist for the same reason spam exists: they continue to attract enough business to make it worthwhile.
I got "close" to even with them, but I still have an unused, unwanted, Tamron lens that was subbed for a Nikon one w/o my ok. I just decided to move on, after posting cxomplaints on all the appropriate boards, which, apparently, some folks will never consult.
Like others here, I have found reliable dealers--Adorama is my personal favorite, then B&H, and also KEH, Cameta, and a few others. Now, before I deal with anyone new, I google their name with a + complaints added. That tells me everything I need to know. Bear in mind that any volume company will always have a few unsatisfied customers--some people can't be pleased. My personal feeling is, it isn't if you experience a problem , it is what the company does about it when you do...

Almost took advantage of a great price on a Canon until I asked the sale guy if it was a US version with warrantee. After a lot of humming and hawing he admitted it was a foreign version without a warrantee.
