The Totem Poles again with a sky change. This time a move to the dark side.

What I like most about this one, compared to your previous, is the composition. I really like your inclusion of sunlit smooth foreground with diagonal line opposite of the dark shadow. A nice addition of depth and I get a much greater sense of being there.

Thanks Linda, I have found blending two photos together has been an excellent PP learning experience

Hi, John,
As a longtime fan of Monument Valley, I love this image and, especially, the composition. my one quibble is that although the dark clouds are low and dramatic, the strong, sharp-edged shadows cast by the low-angle sun suggest that everything that sun illuminates ought be a full stop (or two?) brighter.
JMO, of course!

Dave

Nice mood. Could almost be Mars on a cloudy day.

Thanks Dave, I will play around with your ideas and see what develops. You and could have been Navajo blood brothers in a past life as we both enjoy the treasures found in MV.

MV and Mars both share the red color on steroids. The red sand goes on for hundreds of miles.

Funny. I was thinking Venus on the principle that Mars doesn't have much cloud cover. 😅 Then I saw Dave's remark about the shadows that shouldn't be there (maybe there's a break in the clouds out of frame?).* I did open the first version at max enlargement and compared the two side-by-side. Now I see what somebody meant by "plastic," although I still like the first version just fine. I like this one just fine too.

*I misread what Dave said.

I'll base my pre-conceptions on reliable sources such as Total Recall
