Mars photo, help wanted

This is a photo of Mars that I took recently with my Canon SX-40, using a tripod. I had hoped for a sharper image, but perhaps that's the best I could do, without using a telescope, given that Mars is only a dot in the sky to the naked eye. If anyone has taken a better image of Mars with a similar camera, please post it, along with your settings, so perhaps I can do better the next time. Thanks.

You might want to ask your question in the "Astronomy Photography" forum section. http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-109-1.html

Thanks, but how do I do that? I clicked on that link, but I didn't find anywhere to post a question.

At the top of that page you will see a tab "Create New Topic", click that.
Also, if you are interested in Astrophotography there is a "Subscribe" tab new to the "Create" tab.

A ruddy grapefruit - not a bad description! But given my equipment, it may be about as good an image as I can get, as you suggest. If you do take a similar pic, please post it - same for any other viewers who might be inclined to take such a pic, as I'd like to see what others come up with - thanks.
