If you have ever been on the street in support of an idea, then you are a PATRIOT a true citizen participant. You are the life blood of this nation. You are not a spectator. People can disagree in public, take a stand! Do not believe your silence is superior, it is fear and subservience to power brokers. Make your position heard. Our Founding Fathers were not shrinking violets.

If not... then SHUT THE F*CK UP!

In the USA

What about those that serve and have served in the military? It's one thing to spent an afternoon or evening in protest then go home and maybe have a nice meal with the family, a dry warm bed and the assurance of seeing tomorrow. The military serve for years. They don't always have that warm dry bed when they are tired. Supper may be some processed meal served out of a bag. And too many times tomorrow morning may be a perilous time. Just sayin'........

we all make choices and get to live with them.... unless of course, they're fatal choices.

I think the point of the post was to point out if you're not doing something, other than complaining and arm-chair-quarterbacking, your voice carries no weight and you are not a patriot. I agree with this sentiment and was attempting to point out that there are other ways to make a difference as a patriot other than demonstrating. Actually demonstrating is probably the least effort required to resolving any issue. As Chief Brown (Dallas Chief of Police) said very well today in his press conference (paraphrasing): "If you want to make it better, get involved. We have openings here in our police force. Join up we'll put you in your community so that you can be part of the solution."

Does the OP think people should block freeways and bridges and terrorize innocent motorists? As BLM "protesters" have done, repeatedly...

Protesting is your right. But when protestors break the law they should be willing to pay the price. Rioting IS NOT protesting.

Statistics show that a black male, even a career violent criminal, is more likely to be killed by lightning than by a police officer. Why isn't BLM having violent protests against weather forecasters?

I have no problem what so ever with protests (it's an American tradition). But one of the main tenets of civil disobedience is if you break the law you should be willing to pay the consequences.

What do you suppose happened to Stephen? Suppose he had been a minority, would it have been the same consequence? In your opinion...

Something I should have included in my reply--A riot is not a protest

A riot can be the result of a protest. From my personal history as an activist in my youth.

August 29th 1970, East Los Angeles. The Moratorium March. An anti-war demonstration, until the Police descended up us. I was there, marching. A riot ensued. There was burning, looting and general mayhem. There was a public investigation as to the cause of the event. It was determined by the court that the Police, caused the peaceful march to escalate to the point of rioting by their use of force and tear gas on the population enjoying the public speakers, (Mayor Tom Bradley spoke) children performing on stage. My father, children, family and senior citizens, sitting in the park, along with 100's of others were tear gassed.

Let me repeat. It was the determination of the investigation that the Police were the instigators of the riot.

It is still happening today. Confrontation, control issues, and adrenaline junkies fill the ranks of the Police Dept. I suspect it is the same nation wide.
