Be nice, but be honest as this may help everyone with their craft. Thank you everyone!

Calgary - Almost Stampede Time
Nice subject-seems to be a bit out of focus and perhaps somewhat lighter would help bring out detail of wonderful buildings...
One might consider cropping the photo to remove the building crane seen on the right edge.
These are constructive comments. I do appreciate them. Thank you for your comments.
With the strong backlighting, is this a good candidate for a 3 exposure HDR???
That s an interesting idea. Thanks. With the strong backlighting, is this a good candidate for a 3 exposure HDR???[/quote]
I like the construction crane. Probably would like the composition to include the entire park trail loop at the bottom left. Exposure might be better at another time of day when the buildings are sunlit on this side.
The image is off-horizontal by a degree or so clockwise. Balance would be helped by cropping on right. The foreground tent and walkways distract, perhaps because they are so marginally placed. They, and the flags there, cannot be cropped without losing the river, which might distort the intention of the photographer.
A suggestion was made about photographing at a different time of day. I've found this tool to be quite helpful in predicting full moon rises behind specific sections of the Columbia SC skyline ... it may help others too. I think that I've located the approximate spot in Calgary ... and hope that the link holds that information. (it looks like you have to copy the link since the auto link generator in this interface cuts it off at the first comma. So highlight the whole line ... copy and paste into your browser ...

Kindly, I would like to say that not a whole lot can be done with this photo to improve it and I say this because I feel the entire scene has nothing to offer. There is nothing of interest within the scene, the sky is bland, and everything within the frame is overly busy with no major point or points of interest to be drawn into. Perhaps, another try at another time on a better day, there might be something within the vast area within that city that could be photographed whereas the photographer will locate much closer to something such as an object or a group of people within a much smaller isolated area within the city that would be a real point of interest.
Hopefully, whomever had taken this photo will not be offended by my critiquing his or her photo because, in no way, has my critiquing been meant to be unkind. Thank you..
It would be interesting to see this picture after modifying with some of the suggested changes.

This site is very fascinating and helpful as it enables one to look at the appearance of natural light. I drove 25 klicks to the city to take this particular image and wasn't sure if there would be any natural light as it was such a dismal day. I could have checked with The Photographer's Ephemeris to find the best light for the day. This will be helpful. Thank you for sharing.
just on holidays - no time - thanks for the encouragement though.
I like this shot. Nothing wrong with the composition. That being said, it is a bit underexposed and a little soft. Did you use a tripod?

Thanks Dan. I have two good cameras - the Olympus OMD - EM1 which has image stablization and the Sony A7 without image stablization. The Olympus is much more forgiving if you don't use a tripod but I know now that the Sony A7 is not. I have a new tripod now!!! The answer to your question is that I did not use a tripod!
