The US Navy has an operational 30kW laser, and they're about to test a 150kW laser. One potential problem with this new weapon is that it's very cheap to operate. No one is going to be selling ammo that costs several hundred thousand dollars per shot. I wonder if this will dampen weapon suppliers' enthusiasm for the weapon.

They've had this for a while, you can google it and watch a test fire on a small boat.
