Okay, I will admit it... I'm still shooting with a Nikon D40X and I absolutely love the thing. It's like an old battle axe. I've never had a single bit of trouble with it and still use the original battery which I just keep recharging. I know there are better, newer, nicer and more expensive Nikons out there, but I just refuse to give the thing up! It's like an old comfortable pair of boots, why change when it still shoots so well. Comments ?

Nothing wrong with that.

I still shoot with my Nikon D50. Of course it's not wrong.

OK! I to use my D50 and have for 10 years. I'll likely upgrade soon as i find myself wanting full frame for larger prints and fast burst for BIF. But I'll tel you one thing : that D50 keeps this old man sharp shooting BIF with it's slow FPS.

There are people that change their partners much quicker than they change their camera equipment. As has been said "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". If you are still getting what you want with the camera you have, it is NEVER WRONG to keep shooting with it. I'm glad you have found something that makes the photos you want, your way. Many times people spend their entire lives trading "up" their equipment instead of learning how to successfully use what they have. Congratulations on your success.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. All this hub-bub about newer technology, newer and better equipment is all marketing to keep selling cameras. If yours is working for you as well as you say why spend the $$ on a different camera? What you're doing makes lots of sense to me.

If I could figure out a way to chimp my shots, I'd still be using my Nikkormat.

rpm I'm with you 110%. You are totally satisfied with the tools you use and get the results you are happy with. My first DSLR was a D70. I'd still be using it today except that it was stolen. Replaced it with a D200 which I'm still using while my spouse recently purchased the D7100. The D200 does everything I need it to do. Yes, I've used the D7100 a few times only because I needed a higher megapixel so that I could print 13"x19" photo. I always go back to my D200 for all other shots. I learned many years ago while in the USAF that "If it works -- don't fix it." I just use "If it works -- don't replace it!" Keep on being happy with a camera you enjoy.

Might as well add my 2 cents worth. My first DSLR was the D40 and I recently add the SX50. I love the capabilities of the SX50 and not having to pack around "stuff" but the D40 is still much more comfortable in my hands and still takes great pictures!

Two things:

One, it isn't the gear that makes you a great photographer. The application of light and composition does!!

Two, if you all you ever eat is pancakes, you would never know how good a cheesecake is. If you are a good photographer and are capturing wonderful images that are of gallery quality. You should invest in better equipment. Your work will likely be so much better in print produced by a high-resolution camera with much higher dynamic range.

LoL..., now THAT is self control!!!
Good job

The world economy depends on people buying new stuff. Do you want to be responsible for little children going hungry because daddy lost his job?

I converted a d200 to infrared and it takes great pictures. Has the additional advantage of being weather proof.

The only wrong thing here is the question.!!!Why should be wrong to use the camera you like most..? Besides, no camera will ever be better than the man behind it. In other words, the camera do not make the photographer....Be happy and stick with your D40X.
