My desktop computer (i7) which I have used for years, all of a sudden is preventing me frm accessing the Internet; it happens with Microsoft Edge, Internet Explorer and Google. When I login to any of the three browsers I get a red screen and a warning denying access and an offer to resolve the problem by calling a 1-800 number. I have refused to call and make things worse. The computer freezes at that point and the only way to get out of that condition is through the Task Manager. I have restored the computer to an earlier date and it seems to help but only for a short time and the problem reappears.
Has anyone had this or similar problem? It really sounds like ransome ware; any ideas?
You have a well known malware issue that has been discussed here several times. No anti-virus software will detect it. Your only solution is to format your hard drive and reload your OS from a disk losing all your other software at that time. It is a browser hijacker program and extremely malicious, it was used to attack Apple products initially and was so successful it is now used to attack PC's as well.
Do NOT call the phone numbers, you will be giving your credit card number and code to Russian mobsters and will have to deal with identity theft as well.

I was afraid of that and anticipated the worst. Thanks for your input.
Before you format your hard drive try what I did. I deleted my browser and then reinstalled it from the source. Problem solved. In my case it seems the Malware attached itself to the actual browser, Chrome in my case. It has not recurred so I guess it was not lurking on my system. Best of Luck.
If you are using Microsoft Edge as one of your browsers it is fairly easy to get rid of this malware. You need to be using a separate email program such as Outlook. Any email that runs separate from your internet browser will do. Simply go to your email and click on any link in any email to a web site. The browser will open to the link you click with the malware on a separate page. Then click the X in the upper right corner to close the browser and all open pages. 99% of the time that will eliminate the malware. The one percent left requires the information qqttc referenced in his link.
That info is over 2 years old and technology, as well as hackers and thieves, have all advanced tremendously.

How did you restore the browser from the source being that Internet browsing was blocked? I cannot use any of my browsers...
