During my travels, I occasionally like to get off the main highways and see what's going on in those little communities long forgotten when the Interstate Highways were built. In this image, I happened upon what looks like a city wide rummage sale on the main drag running through this little town. Here folks rummage through other folk's stuff. Nothing ever leaves town...it just changes hands. I like the way traffic control is managed by placing a pickup truck in the road to slow down passing traffic. At the extreme right, there's a couple little old ladies rushing to get in on the action. This is what you do in a small town on a Saturday morning.
Hope you enjoy my attempt at processing this scene Norman Rockwell-ish.

I love the story and the shot is nice. But for some reason I feel I'd rather see the original in this case. Not sure why, just think it might actually show more of the old town feeling. Not being critical James, just expressing an opinion. Always like your work.

Love your PP of this image. We spend a good part of the summer in a similar town in western Colorado. Looks a lot like your photo.

James, you've done a mighty fine job here with your rendition of a "Small Town USA", and you've touched the hearts of many who can still remember what & how many small towns once had been. The post processing presets you have chosen are ideal and your employment of the perfect focal length wide scope lens has creatively captured a scene to be exactly like what Norman Rockwell would have painted with his brushes !

My hat is off to you, James, for your having shared this wonderfully beautiful piece of art with us all... Thank You !

Best Regards,
~ Doug ~

Nice photo, James.

Your title and narrative are interesting, for this is the kind of thing that occurs in my hometown of Alexandria, Indiana. By the way, our Alexandria has the official title of "Smalltown, USA." It was given this title by the government during WWII when a pamphlet was produced about the town, for propaganda purposes, I think. The city (pop. 5500+-) continues to use the title today for festivals, celebrations, and the like.

I got a kick out of this, we just had city-wide yard sales in my town of Lakewood (51,000 pop), we picked up some useful items and had a pleasant time meeting people. Ohio has a lot of nice little towns, I enjoy getting on the back roads and seeing them and the countryside.

Here you go...SOOC, no processing. Kind of dull and lifeless in my opinion. Needs something to make the image grab your attention.

Me too, I attended Boy Scout Camp there many years ago. I guess the boy scout camp is still in use today. Yes, the Osceola Cheese Factory is unique and packed full of customers when we came through.
BTW, I posted some images of KCMO should you care to look (see link below). Thanks for stopping by and sharing your story.

Thanks for sharing a bit of your towns history. Sounds like a lovely place to live. I grew up in a small town myself and miss that laid back, friendly atmosphere. Here in Nashville, someone's killed almost everyday and nothing is quiet or friendly.

Thank you Kindly Doug...this is a new treatment style I've been trying. It works for some subjects but not everything. I like it, many others don't and feel any kind of processing is some sort of wizardry.

Wonderful shot James56, so interesting. The lady with her green runners walking into town, maybe to attend the gathering at the other end (whatnot sale?) It shows so much life! The buildings are quaint! Nice perspective.... love the photo!
