He is talking assault weapons which are fully automatic or otherwise known as machine guns. The firearms in question today by Liberals are SEMI AUTOMATIC which are NOT machine guns. How many times do you Liberals have to be told that? Much of the problem regarding firearms today is that people, especially reporters, have no idea what they are talking about. They confuse clips with magazines, semi auto rifles with machine guns, firearms that simply are different looking to tried and true semi automatic firearms that have been used lawfully by American sportsmen and children since the early 1900's.

Machine guns have been heavily regulated since 1934. Now only a few states allow their possession and to buy a machine gun takes a few months of waiting and a hefty tax payment on the sale. In reality machine guns, what are really assault rifles, have not been used in a crime in recent history that I know of. There was an owner of a machine gun, an AR-15, who successfully used it to ward of multiple attackers a few years ago.

Please get your facts straight before just point out inaccuracies.

The hair splitting between semi-automatic and automatic is getting really boring. Ask just about anyone who's been in the service or a police officer and ask them what mode they use their M16's in and they will invariably tell you semi-automatic. True in a combat situation, you might go to 3 round burst or full auto but that's pretty rare. Add that to the fact that the weapon can actually shoot faster in semi-auto than most people can pull the trigger and you see how stupid that argument is.

In the end whether it's the m16, AR15 or any other incarnation of this weapon it is designed to do one thing. Cause massive wounds to human bodies.

It's also pretty useless for home defense, unless you live in Islamabad as it's designed to over-penetrate and could result in a bunch of dead or wounded neighbors.

Then of course there's that 2nd Amendment thing that the gun lovers are so fond of. Well, it doesn't mean that the rights under that amendment can't be regulated and they already are so that should be no big deal.

And as a final note, just to piss off the right, I'd like to say that if you look at what our founding fathers really thought was okay, like slavery, women not having the vote, voting only for land owners, etc, etc, etc, then maybe it's time to redo the Constitution and bring it up to date.

What facts am I avoiding? It seems that it is you who is avoiding the fact that Ronald Reagan was shot by an assailant but STILL did not seek any weapon ban. He was smart enough to realize that the gun didn't shoot him but a man shot him. Can't you get it straight that semi auto rifles that look like an assault rifle are in reality NOT assault rifles. If you were correct then every kid with a semi auto .22 rifle would be a violent terrorist waiting to happen. Next you will have us banning cap pistols from children because they give the kid the wrong idea. Oh wait. That is already being done in many places. How is that working out for us.

What you are mouthing off about but don't really have any idea is that in most if not all states, semi auto rifles are used often but when hunting big game the magazine must be limited to 5 rounds. Nobody legally uses a 20 or 30 round magazine to shoot big game. Of course nobody legally murders and wounds a group of innocent people in a Florida night club either but that is another story. Is there really a difference in whether I shoot a mule deer with a 308 bolt action rifle or whether I shoot him with a semi automatic 308 caliber rifle? As long as I am an honest citizen what does it matter to anyone but me? Come up with sensible gun laws that target the criminals and not the honest citizen and gun owners will be happy.

For all of you who complain about "Assault" weapons.--Hillary and Obama (the strongest opponents of "assault" waepons-- are surrounded with security personnel armed with automatic rifles. Un less the refuse protection of their personnel who carry those automatic weapons-- I suggest that they shut the hell up!!! By the way the police carry assault weapons as well as assault hand guns and assault batons. Marshalls on aircraft also carry assault pistols.
