Since the best pics are going to be early and late, the light will be low, so no nd filter will be necessary, but a faster lens would be helpful. Good luck!

Disagree heartily, take the ND, you'll need it.

You should be using a graduated ND as well as a Polarizer, or shoot HDR with your tripod.

"UGH"... One becomes a little tired of reading of various posters who are taking a trip some place, and question "which camera, lens, filter, etc, should I bring".. Back in the better days of photography as an ART, a decent photographer (who knew his equipment) took what he had, and enjoyed the trip. MY ANSWER TO THIS SILLY QUESTION: IF YOU, don't know which of your many pieces of photo jnventory that you have, TAKE THEM ALL, and enjoy the trip.

The only silly question remains unasked.

Did you say you were going to the grand canyon the bigggest widess hole in the ground and you can,t get it all in a 18mm lenses it,s not a back lot 12 by 12. People take wide angles photos of the grnd cnyon with telephotos and they still come out looking wide. What you need a camera and perfect lighting situation and shoot the hell out of adigital card.

That would be so if you were only exposing for the rim or the canyon. The range of levels is sufficient that the rim will be blown if the sky and the rim are correct. Dave
