35 G is an exceptional lens. Doubtful you can beat it at anywhere near its price.
I agree,but I've never used one. LOL!!
Just kidding, I have enjoyed mine for a couple years and it's foolish of me to not keep it in my bag. Small and versatile.
If you don't have an 85mm prime, you can purchase both the 35mm and 85mm lens in a two package deal for about $500 at B&H. It's called a twin pack deal.

I use the 35mm f1.8 DX on my D5300 and get excellent results. I typically shoot aperture priority between f5.6 - f11, with best results (for me at least) at f8. I highly recommend this lens both for the price and size. It is so easy to put in a coat pocket when you head out that you don't even notice it.

Wow, I paid almost that for my 85 G model a couple years ago! That's another nice lens, but getting kind of big to carry as an extra, though not as bad as the 105 micro.

Absolutely amazes me how people categorically recommend stuff that they have never used. Why don't they just say "Here are some reviews" (include links like the linkmeister JerryC41 does) and it seems highly recommended."? Just dumb.
Yes, the 35mm f1.8 from what I have seen is a very capable little lens for DX cameras.
There's nothing cheap about the inexpensive version, except its price. It's super sharp and it produces fine results on my D7000.
Agree on the DX. One of the sharpest lenses I ever owned.
If you shoot people indoors, with a crop sensor body, you might want to go wider than 35mm. I use a Canon 7D to shoot people, mostly indoor, so I got a 15-85 EFS lens, which is perfect on the wide end and flexible, plus pretty good optics. Nikon offers some good wider options as well.

Nice recommendation form a person who has used neither. Geesus.
Why thank you kind sir. I forgot that, according to your rules, a person with 50 years of experience, some as a professional photographer, is not allowed an opinion or to give any advice whatsoever to someone who asks, unless that advice is approved by the king of photography, yourself! You really do need to get over yourself, or you will be blocked by everyone! Geesus!
