Sometimes, reading these posts, I think I'm back in second grade! Isn't it possible to have a conversation or discussion without berating each other. Some on here just need to grow up a bit! Let's work to solve world problems, not create new ones!

Are you saying there are no crooked trees? You must live in lala land.
Since you are somebody, why not move your camera or cell phone back a bit so you don't chop off part of the cars you take pictures of? Should you not be aware of such basic "rule"? After how many decades?
tdekany - love your signature line - "Amateur photographers worry about equipment. Professionals worry about money. Masters worry about light."
Thank you, although I can't take credit for it - I saw someone else had it in their signature and I liked it so much, I put it in mine. It is so right on!

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying? My point here is that a lot of people these days allude to pretense. The fact that one can look anywhere on the interwebs and rate themselves in a sea or mediocrity does not trump real experience, real knowledge or real meaning. I'm not saying this to get anyone's knickers in a not. There are many things I enjoy and wish I was better at. Wouldn't it be great to be Eric Clapton? I'm sure he had "talent " but he learned to have much more and he worked very hard at it. He looked long and hard at others who were better and had more experience. The question here is not whether you are a hammerer because you use a hammer but rather, are you going to spend the time ( and it does take time)to be more than the hammer or the title hammerer. We're all up against the same question. Let's stop fooling ourselves.

I don't think a talented violinist dabbles in music or the instrument. There is more than that to be good at something or for that matter to be good at anything. Even sweeping floors. I do appreciate you looking after mom!
Still only a musician, and who knows mom may be the best of all, but still just a photographer. Lol

I have had a similar experience. I started taking photos for fun. People kept telling me how much they enjoyed my pictures so I started studying and investing some time. The more I learn, the more I see the faults of my work.
Thats my story as well. Such is the quest for a greater view in life. A static position in life without self examination and exploration is limited. I bear no ill to those who don't wish a larger challenge. Enjoy your time. At the same time there is a difference between a person who has a pencil and labels them selves an artist and someone who has a larger commitment to a discipline. Semantics aside, there is a difference. No problem.. no reason to feel inferior.. just recognize the difference. It's OK! Really!
So while you lot pushed your computer buttons I enjoyed pushing my camera buttons. lol.

I have 7 full frame Canon DSLRs, 14 Canon L series lenses a PhaseOne IQ2 series back and body and 4 lenses, a Cambo Ulitima 4x5 Digital with 5 Digitar lenses, at least 5 professional tripods, 5 Cambo 9 foot Monostands and enough Speedotron Backline and Dynamite strobe equipment to start a forest fire. I shoot several thousand personal images a month and at least that many professionally. I'm currently running 18 terabytes of personal image backup form 2004 to present on my networked server and 8 terabytes of temporary professional storage. I don't do weddings! I don't do portraits (except for grumpy old CEOs who pay me handsomely)! I have a forrest of 60-70 collectable old cameras on old tripods in one corner of my 4500 sq/ft studio just for fun and I think I just emptied my bladder in this pissing match. Oh! one more thing....Having shot film for over 30yrs I don't miss it!

To be a real photographer you must have and know who to use a pinhole camera. - Dave
