True or not I would like to add one that I know is true. Went to a grocery store, to the deli, and asked for some ham. Was asked how thick I wanted it cut and I replied no thicker than a dime. She cut the meat and asked if this was thin enough. Was the thickness of a quarter. And the employee was not young must have been in her seventies. She no longer works there.

Sarge,
Unfortunately YES! Most of us who have been around for "a while" have encountered similar examples of such 'brilliance" too may times for comfort!

I went to WalMart Deli. Asked for 1/2 pound of Farmers Ham. I watched as she cut the ham and put it on the scale. It measured almost a pound. I said "Miss, I wanted 1/2 a pound." She pulled off a bunch of ham until it measured 1/2 a pound. Made up the price slip and then put the excess
back on the pile.
"Thank you so much"This has happened more than once in that store.

Someone should go back and correct the spelling. DEER, not DEAR!
I was going to ask if it was old dears or raindeers.
Around the office I find a number of things that make me shake my head and wonder ... our "quality management" people regularly put out bulletins trying to get us to jump on the "quality is critical" bandwagon, yet their bulletins often contain spelling errors and things that would make my old high school English teacher scowl.
Was also doing some internal online "training" the other day. At various spots along the way the system pops up a couple of quiz questions to see if you are actually paying attention. The very last quiz question was a true or false question and I have to admit I had drifted a bit by that point and incorrectly guessed "false" ... the system told me that I should retry, and that I was on attempt 2 of 5. Hmmm, let me think carefully about that one!

I suspect that's what she meant.

The more important question is how they ever get out...

I'm sure you, as an honest man, asked her to remove the excess and then went to the department manager to tell him/her this wasn't the first time it had happened to you.

That's what we Americans now call an Elementary Education.
