Lightroom 4 and Sony a7ii raw files

Just wondering why Lightroom 4 will not accept raw files I took with my Sony a7ii. I checked and my Lightroom is up to date. Photoshop Elements 14 does accept the files. Just wondering if I need to upgrade to Lightroom 6 or not. Any ideas, fellow hedgehogs?

I don't think Lightroom 4's Raw acceptance is being updated past any of the cameras that were available when Adobe moved to LR5 or CC. I suspect that your camera is newer than the last raw update for your software. Others may have better answers but I would look seriously into either going to LR CC for $9.99 per month or going to the latest stand alone.

Thanks for the info...I just chatted with an Adobe person and they said 4 does not accept Sony a7ii raw files and recommended the same as you.

Won't Adobe Camera RAW, the latest version, convert Sony ARWs to DNG? You can also find LR5 reallyt cheap these days as a downloadable program.

I currently "make do" by opening and doing basic adjustments to my a6000 raw files in the Sony program ("RAW Image Data Converter" free from Sony) save as a tiff and then finish tweaking in LR 4 till I build a new computer, install Win 10 and get set up for the long haul with LR 6.

If you don't want to spend any $, you can use Adobe's free DNG converter to convert your raw files to DNG and then import the DNGs into LR4.

You have already received correct information, but for future reference or for others who may have similar questions, see:
Two Adobe web pages will help:
http://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
this will tell you the minimum version of Camera Raw that you camera's raw files need
http://helpx.adobe.com/camera-raw/kb/camera-raw-compatible-applications.html
this tells you the Camera Raw versions compatible with each software version
Based on this you would need a newer version or to convert your raw files to DNG.

You need to update to LRCC to have it recognize Sony raw files or convert them in Sony's image converter.
I have 4 Sony's and that's what I had to do when I used LR/PSCC. I now use Capture One and Affinty for my editing. Gave Adobe the boot and couldn't be happier.
