Yes, your list is missing a 'gear porter.'

Look on the internet for offering prices on your old gear -- you might want to post it for sale here as well on Ebay or other photo enthusiast sites. You will be surprised what people want! A little hassle, but in all probability, you will do much better.

DVD's for image backups does not make a lot of sense economically, nor for time management.

Given the cost of an extra computer equipped with 10 TB is disk space... backing up a D850, even for a relatively prolific photographer is not difficult. The hard part really is figuring out a way to put a second computer off site, to prevent a single disaster from destroying everything.

I'm not sure exactly how he has them set up, but my son has three MyBooks attached in series to his modem, and they instantly add anything added to his computer. He can then delete whatever he wants to from his computer and access things from his MyBooks. I'm not even expert enough to explain it, but by doing something like this, you could have all the storage capacity you needed. I'm sure he could explain how to back up everything for off-site backup, but I can't. I'll ask him.

They're called wives, John!! They work cheaper than Sherpas. I couldn't have done without mine when I had one camera and was constantly switching out between my 28-300mm and my 10-24mm while in Monument Valley and Grand Canyon. Great reason to have two cameras.

Couple of comments, review cameramemoryspeed.com for the right cards for the D810. Both my d7000 and D800 work better with faster cards less time waiting for the buffer to clear. Cf cards are significantly faster than sd. Determine if that matters with your style. I will give you more than 65 for the Gitzo if you decide not to keep it. After looking at the 18-35 I would get that over the 16-35. Check it out for yourself. Have fun.

Hello everyone,
I am FINALLY able to get some of the equipment I want, and would like input from those of you Nikon DSLR lovers who have experience with any of the following equipment;

List of items for Saturday morning purchase:

1 Nikon D810 Camera Body with 24-120mm f4 VR Lens
Plus Nikon Lenses:
16-35 f4 VR
200-500 f5.6
1 Extra battery EN-EL15 Lithium-Ion
1 Compact Flash Card: 64 GB
1 SD Card
1 Flash-SB5000
1 Cable Release MC30
1 Polarizer filter plus adapters for the lenses (I know I can't use lens shades with adapters, but have to price out Polorizers for all 3 lenses.
ND filters plus Variable ND’s by Tiffen 2-8 stops
GPS Unit GP1A Versus Solmeta...Solmeta is cheeper! Anyone with experience here?

Is there anything you can think of that I'm missing? There are tons of packages out there in cameraland, but the items that come with them (I've been told) are generally lower quality. I realize that with the items listed here that I'll be without a NEW lens to cover between 120-200mm, but I have an older Nikkor lens that can be used: Nikon ED AF Nikkor 70-300mm 1:4-5.6 D It's not nearly as sharp as the newer lenses I'm told, but I could use it in a pinch. I used to shoot advertising images, but am selling my 4x5 view camera. It's a Toyo View D45M...all metal with a great bellows, and a Rodenstock Sironar 210mm lens, metal case, extension rail, Poloroid Back, cable releases, extension lens shade (bellows), perfect ground glass etc. Glazer's Camera has offered me all of $50.00 for these items. I also have a Gitzo tripod for it...heavy duty...goes up to 16'! I've been offered $65.00 for it, and I have a Nikon SB28 Flash, for which I've been offered $25.00. It's HEARTBREAKING!! I also have a Nikon D90 35mm camera that they won't even take! They tell me that no one wants these any more. Does anyone out there know otherwise?
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

Except for the 120-200mm hole you're filling with the 70-300mm Lens I think you have done really well in your purchase.
As stated earlier the Nikon or Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Lens would fill that hole very nicely.

MC-30A; check that in your D810 manual. http://nikonrumors.com/2014/07/22/the-new-nikon-mc-30a-remote-trigger-vs-the-old-mc-30-version.aspx/

Wrt your polarizer buying, be sure they are circular; it is too easy to wind up with linear. As Nikon equipment is designed as a system, I am replacing my B+W Nano and other CPLs of various sizes (77mm, 62mm, 58mm, and numerous 52mm) with Nikon CPLs. Come to think of it, I'm done. This move is speculative on my part but at least I know Nikon CPLs are advertised as flat as flat can be, which implies others might not be. It's easy to buy Nikon CPLs used. My used CPLs have been easy to find in the original box and like new.

And as for B+W top-drawer filters, be careful. Their nano coat seems to me to be about repelling liquid and smudges rather than about shaping light in the manner of top Nikon lenses.

The 16-35 is an excellent choice, but check out the Sigma 150-600 Sport. If you can handle the extra weight, there's extra reach, it's completely weather sealed, has better build quality, and from a lot of reviews, better IQ.
As far as filters go, check out the Lee system. All you need is different adapter ring for each different lens diameter.

I got into a dream situation where my wife had to handle my Nikon kit a few times and she looked at me and said the magic words, "You really do need to buy a mirrorless camera." I bowed my head and said meekly. "If you say so, dear." Talk about a surreal moment! I love my Sony A6000!

Just got done shooting in IR and normal for the afternoon. The normal shooting I did was at a custom Hummer with a Mercedes diesel and transmission. Still looks like an Army Hummer but that's what my friend wanted. Shot the Hummer with the a6300---10-18 lens. Worked out great. The IR was shot with my converted a7.
Love the a6300.

And had that incident happened later, you would have the a6300.

Many thanks to everyone who replied to me! Now, if I only had time to read all the info and shoot! I saved $900.00 by purchasing my camera by Saturday when the instant rebate ended, but I'm in the process of packing and moving, and working. I can't wait to get going with my new toys as soon as I'm settled! Images to come....
