If you connect your iPhone to your computer via the cable it will, at least on a PC, open iTunes if it's set to do so. However, I can also use explorer and look at the files (.jpgs) in a folder on the iPhone.

If I remember correctly, an icon for your iPhone should appear on your Mac desktop when you connect it, and you should be able to do the same thing.

I use an app called "photo transfer app" and it works great. I downloaded it to my computer, my iphone and my wife's iphone. I have no complaints

I am sure you understand that the iPhone's pics are jpeg and are not huge files. The absolute best method of transfer is to set up an Apple iCloud accound and then link all of your devices...iPad, iPhone and your desktop. Do all of this initianlly on your desktop. Here's the wonderful advantage if being an Apple customer.....if you experience any trouble with this setup, call Apple Care - (800) 275-2273. These people are very professional and will solve any problems you might have....Apple Care is available to you because you own these devices....no need to pay unless your call represents damaged hardware or serious software issues. Once you've setup iCloud, any pics that you take will show up in Photos. Learn about Photos as it is quite powerful. If you want to work with these pics in Lightroom, etc. just drag and drop from Photos to yourr desktop or a folder and work from there.

I absolutely agree that ICloud is an excellent way to share photos between Apple devices, and it also serves as a backup if your phone is damaged/stolen or if a password is forgotten and you have to restore your Iphone or IPad ( both of these things have happened to members of my family and the restore was seamless). My daughter-in-law is a prolific user of her IPhone camera to record our grandchildren, and we get a steady stream of the photos appearing on not only our iPhones and IPads, but as the screensaver of our Apple TV is well. The cost is minimal - free up to a certain amount and the 99 cents/month up to 50 GB. The only reason I don't currently use it on my IMac, which I use for PP, is that transferring via USB allows me to choose which photos I import rather than getting all the photos automatically and then having to delete unwanted ones. iCloud is highly recommended.

All of my iPhone pics are on my PC.

Using a USB Cable I hook my iPhone to my computer. Using ITunes I open the directories and just transfer all my photos to my PC.

...me too...*and* I'm backed-up in Amazon Prime, and Google. Heh...any one of them allows me to get to my phone-camera shots easily. Editing before importing is especially helpful...

Hi Jeff,
I have used the "AirDrop process to wirelessly transfer photos from my iPhone 6 to my iMac. Position yourself near you iMac or other Mac computer. Open the Photos folder where your iPhone images are saved. Touch the first photo you was to transfer then look for the icon in the lower right corner with the box that has an arrow pointed upward. Click on the icon and you should see the photo you selected and a row of recent photos. Select the remainder of the photos. Just below the line of photos you will see "Tap to share with AirDrop. In my box there is an 8-ball icon and below it my name and iMac. When I tap the 8-ball, the transfer process begins as a blue line circles the 8-ball icon. The photos are quickly loaded to your Downloads folder. From there you can move them to a more permanent location. Hope this wan't too confusing. Let me know if you have any questions. Sincerely,
Lee

Tommy - Thanks for your helpful response. I guess I need to talk to the Apple Care folks. Some of the pics I've taken on my iPhone show up, but others don't seem to. Clearly I'm not all the way there. I haven't really used Photos that much, since I mostly work with LightRoom and PS Elements. I manage the folders for my photos (mostly taken with a Nikon), and use LightRoom to help with organization and filtering.

Yes, that's right. And doing so, I've been able to get at the photos and export them. I was just looking for the preferred way, since the files can be various types and sizes.
