As a veteran, I sincerely thank you! Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. While those who died are also remembered, Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military — in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served — not only those who died — have sacrificed and done their duty.

The best thing the People of the United States can do for those in the Service is to ensure that they are not sent to fight a war without a clear mission, objective, and cause for which can see an end game. Being overseas and fighting a fight in which these things are lacking is a fruitless exercise, a waste of money and lives (ours and the enemy) and degrades our society. It leads to endless war. But it is our current situation.

I also am speaking as one who has served honorably and overseas and speak from experience. My remark was that you should perhaps start your own thread as opposed to polluting someone else's with your rhetoric, right or wrong. People other than you have their rights as well.

What did he say that was wrong? Regardless of politics, right or left, we should all be against commiting our sons and daughters to war without a clearly defined mission and the means to carry it out. There's no politics in that to object to, just common sense. And please explain your statement, "People other than you have their rights as well." How does his saying what he did interfere with or deny anybody's rights? Seems to me, your saying what he wrote was pollution, telling him to start his own thread is an attempt at censorship, an attempt at denying him his rights. What gives you the right to tell other people to post somewhere else? Who died and made you HMFIC?

I Agree, soldiers, (or Airmen, or Marines), need a reason to fight.

Thank you Blues for the recognition. I visited and decorated several family graves this weekend, some who were veterans. One in particular, (wife's uncle), a medic, who was killed going out to help the wounded just after D-Day landing. I love this quote:

"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men that died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived."
--Gen. George S. Patton

Our politicians should ALWAYS be the first to serve, and front-line. It seems a good way to rid the country of the A--holes. I went to VietNam(68-69)And as a navy hospital corpsman, in the intensive care unit (off-shore) on The Hospital Ship, REPOSE, witnessed way too many deaths. I came home from that war, really Pi-sed-off. Our politicians TOTALLY WASTED all those lives. And the general public just didn't impeach any of them. IMPEACHMENT should be the new wave, instead of bazaar and random law-suits, we should start impeachment proceedings on ANY derelict politician....
