Why is there such a range of prices for the same Canon EOS 5D SR camera.

Digital Outlets offers the camera for almost $1000 less than B&H. I've purchased numerous items from B&H and always been satisfied but what's the deal here and why should I spend the extra $1000?

Are you sure, they are the same cameras, maybe one is the S and the other the R?
Maybe Digital Outlets' BBB rating of F is a factor?

You can get refurb 5DS from Canon for $2800 or a 5DSr for $3000.
Whenever I doubt a company like that I used to call them up asking where they are located and then telling them I will be there tomorrow to make the purchase in person. Their answer would tell me if they are legit.

Most likely, it has to do with the quality of the seller. Authorized dealers must stick to Canon's prices. They sell a USA product with a USA warranty, and you will get everything you are supposed to get. I wouldn't even consider buying from a dealer who advertises low prices.

And when you get there, you will get the same runaround, only in person. "Oh, see that customer leaving the store? He just bought the last one." "Would you like the battery with that?" "The owner's manual is an extra-cost option." These scam artists have been doing business a long time, and they know how to deal with their marks.

Chances are you'll get a grey market camera. Good look getting it serviced.

Could you be comparing "grey market" items (those imported directly from the source country, without the manufacturer's marketing and support) and those imported and sold by the brand's normal U.S. sales and marketing?
Fascinating reading, that. I wonder how some people sleep at night, or look their children in the face.
Thank you for that link. Helps to clarify a number of things.

It could be a grey market camera. Be careful.
I am sure B&H Adorama, and other reputable companies have decided to abandon their reputation now and charge an additional $1000.00 to their customers. Spend 5 minutes of your time, do some due diligence and I am sure you will make the correct decision. "If it sounds to good to be true it probably is"
After years of reading the Hedgehog, I still cannot believe people question reputable dealers and consider the ridiculous claims made by scam artist.
Here is my recommendation>>> Send the company your $2000.00 and let US know how it worked out!
