When I shut down me Facebook account my kids and grand kids got all upset. I told them forget Facebook and email if you want to talk to me about something then call me on the telephone and talk to me about something. I would rather hear your voice than read your bad spelling and grammar. No Facebook and very little email; never from the kids or grand kids. Life is sweet

Cutting off a sizable portion of contact with your kids and grandkids makes life sweet? That's not the way I look at life.

lol I have facebook and love it, my kids are so busy I can't call without being told they have to go somewhere with their kids. so we all have facebook and can leave messages to each other to answer at our convenience. we live 2000 mile apart.

I second that. My wife and I have friends internationally as far as 10,000 miles away so Facebook is perfect for keeping in touch and posting family and friends pictures for all to see. If someone is posting their life's best money-making artwork on FB without watermarking they deserve to get ripped off whether by FB or someone else.

I have uploaded 6 to 8 meg pics to FB and then if you try to right click and save them you get a pic that is only a few k's. I have had friends that have posted old photos with cracks in them and I have download them to photoshop the cracks out and most dont have enough data to do a good job that would be able to print out the photo.

I assume you're not aware that FB has to resize all photos down to 72ppi and a reasonable size to fit monitor screens? They are not a photo storage service for print-level files they merely allow you to show people monitor-level small files.

If you want to do what you are talking about above, use Carbonite or SmugMug to store full-resolution files.

I concur. I set up an account and got replys from poeple I never heard of. The person that wanted to join did not respond as they said they would. I also got a box full of adds that I know that they had sold my address to. Deleted it after about three days. If I wanted to contact you I do not want every one in cyber space to be watching.

Clearly you didn't stay around long enough to understand the format. There are private message areas between you and one other person. You can choose whether your whole FB is restricted to your friends only or open to the public. If you set your stuff to "friends only" you never get replies from people you never heard of. Private groups like high school classmates can get together separately from your FB page and ask you to be part of it. Ads are put on your page based on word count of words you use in your profile and in messages so the ads are fairly of interest to you - your address was not sold to them. Try knowing what it's about before dis'ing it.

It's good it works for you but myself personally - absolutely no way.

It is my understanding, because I set my own privacy conditions, that everything you post belongs to you.If you want or do not want your pictures to be shared,I think there is a setting in "privacy" that covers that.I just googled:"Does Facebook own the pictures you post?" and came away with the above info.I think you should check it out to be sure.

It is my understanding that in the User Agreement that everyone "signs" when setting up a Facebook account, you are agreeing that any picture you post on that site becomes copyrighted by FB and YOU have NO SAY in that matter. Sure protects them, but screws everyone else. This copyright and ownership is theirs FOREVER!!
One of the reasons I got off several years ago and have lost contact with relatives, but they know how to contact me if they are interested......

I agree with "tramsey".... If my relatives and friends choose not to contact via any method other than FaceBook, then I guess they would just as soon not have contact with me. That is fine with me, including my kids. It is more their loss than mine.

privacy, ??? why are you on here then? why not go live out in the woods where there is nothing but you and nature, thats privacy. Seems most of the ones who don't like facebook either do not understand it or have been on it and are disgruntled because it is not all about them. You have all kinds of people on FB and and you have to read the faq to know what you are doing. Set it up so only you and your two friends can see your postings and no one will steal anything from you like they can here

Facebook. Never had it. Never will. I have a phone and an e-mail account. That does everthing I need to keep in touch with family and friends.

that's what I thought for ever so long. Then my sister, for instance, would finally write an e-mail and say, oh, sorry, I forgot you're not on fb; I posted this there last week.
So I got on it to keep up with my relatives who don't e-mail now that they can fb.

Yes not having Facebook is the new "doesn't have email"

I have Facebook to I can keep in touch with relatives (one lives over 2,000 miles away) as it is easier than emailing since they never responded to those and fb they do. I also post some of my work but not a lot. If someone wants an image bad enough, they will do what ever it takes to get it no matter what you do.

I use facebook a lot and watermark my pictures. You can determine who can see your Pictures.( family, friends or public). I want to get my pictures out there and share with people and not hide them in a picture file. With FB you can keep up with all your old friends at one time. A bit of advise is don't put anything on FB you wouldn't want you mother to know.
