You can read the tutorial here as well as post your images in the same thread.

brilliant idea...but I think, you have to tweak the mechanics. how about designating certain days for submission; designate a selection day; and, then discuss what were chosen at week's end. this way, the thread stops. I'm in but still scared

Just putting this out there, I know we have a daily photo challenge here on UHH hosted by photogrl57, I believe the idea behind her thread is to get people out and using their camera every day. Now I don’t want to step on her toes but I was thinking of hosting a weekly photo challenge that would be more geared toward learning how to use your camera, what changing certain settings will do and helping members go from using a pre-program mode to learning how to use the scary M mode (manual). There would be weekly assignments and we would discuss as a group what we learned each week, maybe even take a selected group of images from the lesson and discuss them as a whole.

Let me know if anyone is interested in something like this.

I'm in! Never too old to learn. Too old, maybe, but not to learn!

MWAC, Thanks for challenging us! I do have questions though. Maybe a little of my photo history will explain:

I am an 83 year old retired minister (definately older than dirt) that started with a Nikormat FTn and used Aperture, and Shutter settings a lot. Went through many years totally out of photography, except for family occasions. Then a year ago I got a Canon G12 but have never mastered it. Then a month ago I got a Lumix DMC ZS5 and so far have only taken pictures the "lazy" way..."Scene" (Portrait and landscape, etc.).

Now, my two questions to you:
a. This little Lumis will function well on A or S settings,
but if set on A for instance, it doesn't tell what shutter speed it chooses, I don't know where to find the info. hence I won't have that to post. Can I post without complete info.?
b. My other question is about what camera I should buy to have more control. I don't want to lug most DSLRs, but after reading a blue million reviews don't have a real prospect in mind, except maybe a Fuji X10. Just reading doesn't tell me whether I could master it or not. Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Beagleman

I just wish that 40 years ago I could of had photographic mentors like those found here, that way it wouldn't have taken me 35 years to finally produce a passable photo.

post the info you know, you're not being graded and I promise not to drive to your home and beat you with a stick because you don't know the answer to a question. lol

I was acutally reading about the X10 the other day, it looks pretty nice the physical size is a nice selling feature to me. I actually really want to look at the Nikon One (ya I know I'm a Canon girl, shhh) the idea of it's phsyical size and inter-chanable lenses seems really appealing to me.

I need more lead time. The daily quest is out for me, for many reasons. I would like a challenge of a photo, or series of shots of a particular subject, but due one week out. Give me some time to go find and shoot the shot and do my PP before I post.
