I have been considering buying a camera from SLR Hut. The reviews of this company are very mixed! Is anyone able to reassure me please?

Not familiar with this company but my life experience has been that whenever there are mixed reviews, best to stay away. Yes, you might be one who gets good service, but you also might be one of those who doesn't. No company is 100 percent perfect but there are some that have outstanding ratings for sales and service such as B&H, Adorama, and KEH.

Thanks for the great advice Charles. I'm in the UK. I normally use Panamoz who are excellent, but they can't get the camera I'm looking for.

I bought a Nikon D7100 from them 14 months ago followed by a Sigma 18-250 lens. Superb service - I can unhesitatingly recommend them.

That can be frustrating. When the D7000 came out, the only USA source was a local camera store, and I had to pay $100 over list price. If SLR Hut is an actual store, that's one step better than online, but be cautious.

My understanding of SLR Hut is that they are mostly imports (Grey), they do not try to hide this fact either. Check the warranty returns policy and make your choice based on cost saving, and all the other factors you would with any other purchase.
Now I am neither condoning not decrying purchasing import equipment. But remember that THAT import was made in the same factory as one purchased through a "Legitimate" source and possibly the next one off the production line. Being from the UK you will be familiar with WEX, Clifton cameras, Harrison's etc, just compare prices and potential warranty returns and make your own choice. Also consider this "Just how many times you actually need to take benefit of the warranty". What's the term? 'You pays your money and you make your choices'

Don't rule out the U.S.A. stores, you'll get an American charger and a plug and technically it'll be a 'grey' import here in the U.K. I only wanted a small part that I couldn't get here and B&H service could not be faulted (I'm told the others mentioned above are on a par but I've not used them).
Recently, I bought a Canon 'L' series lens and looked at Panamoz, but with a Canon rebate John Lewis came so close to the price (and offered an extended warranty) I couldn't be bothered looking anywhere else.

Many thanks for the input. Good old John Lewis! 🙂

American stores can really help sometimes, as John N said. Just be mindful of additional taxes. I purchased a lens align tool from USA, price and service really good. HOWEVER, I was hit with a chunk of additional taxes, PLUS the good old Post Office hit me with an additional charge for letting me know they had a parcel for me. I was actually in the house when the post man delivered a card telling me meat I had to collect a package from the depot.

Many thanks. Weighing everything up, I've decided to go to Park Cameras which is just down the road from me. I know it will cost me more, but I'll have peace of mind and a full 3 year UK warranty.

And you will help keep that local store in business! Low prices and excellent service of the better mail order houses aside (B&H here in the US), it is awfully nice to be able to go somewhere local. discuss your needs with a knowledgeable salesperson, and actually hold the item in your hand before purchasing.

Enjoy your new purchase!

Many thanks. I'm sure I've made the right decision. I've bought a Sony A7R II with a 25mm Zeiss Batis lens. Very exciting! :)
