Just an idea...
The 365 Project is fine for some people but I have found that it is not for me. I began to question the quality of my work and frankly I stopped when I found myself shooting just to "meet my quota".
A once a week, bi-monthly or monthly self assignment I have found has been much more productive and I might add, the quality of my pictures improved dramatically.
As president of a local photography club I implemented the "f-64 project" this year. It is a monthly educational challenge which has been well received by our membership. You can see some of our examples at:
http://www.hrdshutterbugclub.org/ I think Ansel Adams said it best..."Twelve significant photographs in any one year is a good crop."
This sounds like a good idea. Used to follow a photography group via Facebook, before it decided to go kaput. The group leader would announce a weekly topic every Monday. With the assignment is a quick tutorial or a link to a helpful site on how to do it, and we would have the whole week to work on it, allowed only one photo each week, and critique each others work, constructive criticism I should say. With our photo, we include our camera settings, and other vital tips used in taking the shot.
It worked well at the beginning, lots of entries. I believe if we get the momentum going, it should work. Otherwise, with less participation, it will go nowhere.
I like this idea. I'm all for it. I learned quite a bit from it.
I think that is a great idea.
I just received and read this site daily. I am a novice. When I read this suggestion I thought "this is what I need". I also have a bridge.camera. It is a old Canon S3 IS and I intend to get a newer bridge camera. I don't know how or when to use manual, etc, but want to learn. I am in if you will allow me. I too am older than dirt.

OK I have the first lesson pretty much written, just have to shot my pictures to go along with it. Which I should get later this afternoon. We will start with the basics:
Aperture (week 1)
Shutter Speed (week 2)
ISO (week 3)
Then move on to other topics like finding the light, white balance, panning, etc. This really won't be about learning to shot manual (but it will be in there, just look at the first three topics, lol) but more about learning how to use your camera to the best of your ability and rocking what you got!
If there is something you've wanted to learn, let me know, if I don't know how to do it, I'll research it and we'll figure it out as a group. The goal is going to be group learning where we share knowledge, I would like it if:
* If I post something that you think is wrong, correct me. (I'm still learning too!)
* If you know a better way to do something, let us all know.
* Be open to people offering not only words of words of encouragement but also offering advice on how to improve.
I'll host the group and post the lessons and weekly assignments, but that doesn't mean I'm the teacher (we all are) and by no means does it mean I am a rock star, this will be a GROUP project.
I don't know if I will ever figure out when and where to use each setting. But I did find out the other day in order to change this or that setting I have to be in them M mode...
I know reading the book is important and I really should take the time to know this stuff.. If you get this done it will be interesting I think.
Sounds great! Count me in too.
Another vote for lets go!!!!
My spin would be to post common mistakes and then at the same time post the same photo shot the proper way. Then you could illustrate DOF, cropping, HDR,ISO, focus ,etc...... The pressenter can tell us how he/she created the proper photo and then the people can go out and try it with there cameras. I know a subject that has always been a problem for me is PP and printing.
Thanks for the good ideas................
How and where do we post photos? What info do you want to accompany the image?
