Happy Weekend to all UHH's,

My dilema is; some four years ago now I had a guy build a website to display my photography.
It is built using WordPress but the site has never gone live!
This is because I have struggled to learn how to use the site, uploading, updating, technical issues etc. because I know nothing and cannot seem to learn about coding.
Trust me - hours and hours of trying but the methodology wont sink in!
Even enrolling on an online training course hasn't been effective because the WordPress training doesn't include the various plug-in's used to operate the galleries on my site etc.

So, despite the cost, (now written off four years ago!), I am thinking of ditching WordPress.
Firstly, because I dont think I'll ever get a grip with it and secondly, it now needs quite a serious face-lift to bring it up to date... more money!

This is what has got me thinking about alternatives and Wix.com looks pretty good.
It's free for the basic package, the templates are ready made and it seems like all I have to do is fill in the gaps with my images, text, blog and so on, on my chosen template.

May I ask what you guys think?
What do you guys look for in your photography web site?

Should I ditch WordPress, which I appreciate is a very powerful platform, and go with the seemingly easier, free option?

I use Coppermine photo gallery. It's free, but you have to download, unzip, and transfer it to your server (I use FTP). I have it on a sub-directory on my site. My main site is built with simple HTML (with a little PHP). I do not care for the canned packages that add (create) a ton of garbage code that I can't understand. Plain & simple works for me.

I use WIX, it's very user friendly and they are always upgrading their offerings, I really like it. I never would be able to build my site on my own. That said, I don't have the free version, I don't want to do advertising for them on my site, and I don't know if you could get all the bells and whistles you may want for the free version. I think you can do a trial and build your site without a commitment, nothing to lose but time involved. Good luck on your search.

I have wix and I concur with Bud S. I use it just for display purposes only. I also use Zenfolio for a more professional look and a turnkey operation as far ascudtomer orders being filled and shipped automatically withiut hacing to get involved.

Since many people here tend to not answer a person's posted question, and just post their suggestions, I'll try to answer you directly, take a look at my site. It is using Wix. Look at my signature file for address.

I don't have the time to bother with learning coding, etc. It is just a hobby I enjoy and no longer require making money from it. I can now enjoy it more. I enjoy capturing images and sharing them with others. Wix templates are easy to use. It saves time.

There are many options to personalize or accommodate your business needs if necessary. Hope this helps.

depends how fancy you want to get...basic wp galleries work fine

Hi, understand your dilemma. About 10 years ago or so I bought a book on HTML coding and built my own website. I was able to post my pictures by category on different pages with picture descriptions. I found a website server service on line and for I think it was about $9.00 per month. They gave full instructions on how to do updates and provided technical support. Just a suggestion. Good luck.

I use WordPress. The only expense is the hosting site. I use ehost and have been happy with their support.
