Socks get lost because they follow screwdrivers to their secret hiding place.

My theory deals with the lint catcher. A sock becomes lint slowly and gathers in the lint catcher. After several cleaning and drying the sock will just become totaly lint and escape to the great lint collector in the trash can. One sock at a time as they are to smart to escape all at once. JUST A THEORY.

Once they have escaped, they congregate and well you know the phrase :' the plane couldn't take off because it was socked in'

I heard they turn in to coat hangers. I tend to believe it!

To top it off, when I loose a sock, it is always the left foot one.

Beefus and Butthead had a place in their universe that was called "The Planet of the Lost Left Sock".
I am not kidding.

When I was growing up in Eastern Washington state there was a theory that all of the 'lost' socks weren't lost at all --- there was a huge warehouse in Yakima, WA where they went to party.

No proof of this of course but it seemed reasonable at the time ...

That's because it is the one left behind.

Get you a box of medium size safety pins and pin mated socks together and you won't lose one. You will always have the right color shade. I have done it for years and it really works. Keep extra pins where you pull your socks off especially if is isn't where you put them on. I have pins on my travel kit just in case I need one away from home.

This is one of life's absolute truths.

All my younger grandchildren (under 12) deliberately wear mismatched socks as some kind of fun, fashion statement.
