Does anyone have experience with this PP program. It's only $50. I know it'd not available for windows as yet, but a windows version is coming soon. Thanks for any help.

I have it and use it when I need more than what Photos offers. It doesn't do any cataloging so I use the Affinity tools as extensions to Photos and use Photos for cataloging.

Affinity Photo is the only serious up-and-comer competition there is for Photoshop. For those who strongly-object to Adobe's repressive transition to landlord rather than vendor, and who aren't required to use Photoshop for professional reasons, it's the way to go.

The program is straightforward, but there is a learning curve. It's NOT like trying to learn 3D.

I am not a fan of Adobe but I resent your sarcasm. The reality of the matter is that they have always been a landlord. You never bought or owned their software, you only bought a license to use it. That is no different under their Creative Cloud plan. The only thing that has changed is paying for it monthly instead of only once. I would hope that one would decide to use it based upon one's own needs and how LR meets them. Whether one likes it or not, Adobe has earned being the gold standard for photography. Everyone knows that they have alternatives to Adobe but I would hope they decide on what is best for their work within their budget rather than one Adobe's payment method.

As for people who would rather use old software rather than paying to get current, I would say that they are missing out on better ways of enjoying photography.

I switched to infinity when it was in beta will do everything you need. The only fault I have with it is no batch raw processing.

Affinity is good, but Aurora is wonderful. But you have to be a Mac user. I use both and find them to meet all of my PP needs.

That's not the point. Adobe is a like it or lumpit company. They always have been. They have become the industry standard, of course. But they have always been insufferable. They got away with it because they sold themselves to the big graphics users, but they also took over other people's products and paid the inventors squat.

They gave you no real choice but to rent the software. Now they are about to increase the price to $14.50 a month according to some websites. They can do that because they have flooded the market.

I learned to use PS early and am in a rut. I keep buying PSP, but I never take the time to really learn it. But I am going to cancel my sub when the price increases and force myself to choose either Gimp or PSP and really learn it.

Resent all you want. Sarcasm? If that's how the facts fit you then feel free to wear them that way. Parsing 'Licensing & Owning' is a real cute trick, but it doesn't camouflage the fact that professional users who bought their license outright were free to update when it was warranted, usually every 2-3 years, NOT when commanded by Adobe. There's a huge difference. First and foremost-the financial burden. And the loveliest of twists: the moment you no longer pay your 'taxes to the landlord' the software is neutered and you're dead in the water. That is NOT the case with owning the version.

After Adobe went public, in the 90s, they began to fire most of the engineers who made them what they were. My brother was working there at the time, and I remember him telling me that ALL of his friends were being fired and replaced by 3rd world (i.e. cheap) engineers or kids. That was the end of the friendly software shop and the beginning of the corporate black hole it's become.
