Forcing myself not to use DxO (another Elk)

We all get locked into a particular work flow. For years mine included DxO coupled with LR cc.
I processed this photo first in LR then made a trip to PS to make some adjustments. Somewhere along the way I lost the metadata. Sorry! It was taken in early morning dim light using a Sony cz 24~70mm f/2.8 lens.

A tiny town in upstate Pennsylvania called Bennezette. Elk were native there but were hunted to extinction during the great depression. Elk from the Rocky mountains where captured and reintroduced to the deep forests of Bennezette. They are protected now and almost tame. Some friends and I drive up every year to photograph them. They sell lottery tickets every year for the right to kill a limited number of them. Some culling is necessary. I always buy an Elk burger every time I go there. They are very tasty. The local joke is that you can hunt them with an ear of corn in one hand and a nine pound hammer in the other. I give them plenty of space because they are big powerful animals. I checked my metadata in LR and see that I took that photo with my lens at 70mm. Call me a sissy but that's a lot powerful animal. I carry a concealed 10mm hand weapon with me. I doubt I would ever need to use it on an elk. I agree that they are beautiful animals.
The meta data in LR states that I took this photo at 5:00am in the morning using ISO=2500 f/4.5 at 1/100 seconds, hand held. I guess I was about thirty feet from him.

The closest I've ever been to an Elk was in Yellowstone park. People think they are tame but I, for one, know better and kept my distance. They are big and powerful and I wouldn't want to anger one. I believe there is still a small number of native Elk hiding in the woods in Elk county. That would be a real treat to find and photograph one of them.

It's would be a fairly short drive for you to drive up an see them. Bring you longest fast lens. I believe Benezette is in Elk county.

A beautiful shot of a wonderful animal. I've seen deer, moose and reindeer but not a live elk yet. They seem so majestic. Mahalo for sharing.
