Boston Bay . . . Port Lincoln, South Australia
One of the best experiences during an extraordinary eight months in Australia was spending five weeks in Port Lincoln, South Australia. PL is a fishing town of about 15,000 situated on Boston Bay on the Eyre Peninsula. Boston Bay? You're kidding me right? Actually not. The five weeks there were extraordinary particularly as I was the only priest in the parish for three weeks. One of the parishioners took me out in his boat for an all-day tour of Boston Bay. First time I ever completely filled a card.
The people of Port Lincoln were very welcoming. The church was about 1/3 mile from the water. The people of Port Lincoln were extraordinarily welcoming and very helpful. I'd go back without hesitation.

Grain loading facility. The turquoise color has not been adjusted. It definitely stood out.

The red sailboat was anchored in the harbor. Took many photos of it.

Squid boats. The boats go out at night with the intense lights to draw the squid to the boat. On the return trip I saw a number of them off Japan. Amazingly bright light.

During the boat trip we stopped. A fisherman was cleaning his catch and tossing the innards to a flock of pelicans. I'd never seen one close-up before. They are truly goofy looking birds.

Walked out of rectory to open the church for early Mass. Gasped. Grabbed camera and shot away. Fortunately Mass wasn't for another hour.

Thanks for the look and comment. I'd never been up close and personal with a pelican before.
Nice shots, all of them, but that last one, WOW, could of had Mass right there, would have been tough to go inside, all that majesty. Bob.

Thanks. Don't think that the idea of an outdoor Mass didn't occur to me. However, that sunrise only lasted for about 15 minutes. After taking the shot from the front of the rectory I quickly unlocked the church for the group of men who came early before Mass to pray and continued shooting for the time that the sun was coming up. All in all I've never seen light that was as amazing as the light in Australia.
Very enjoyable series. The silhouettes are very striking.

Thanks. I like silhouettes a lot. Port Lincoln was a great place. The photos were taken in the middle of July, Australian winter. Amazing light.
Thanks for the thumbs ups.
