Canon Battery Packs

I have a number of Canon cameras. Every time I upgrade or purchase another camera it has a different battery pack. At least the numbers are different but the batteries sometimes look the same as some I might have in another camera. Is Canon just sticking it to us making us buy other batteries or are some of these interchangeable?

The LP-E6 battery works in the 5DII, 5DIII, 7D, 7DII. If Canon was "sticking it to us", each camera model would have a different battery

Do you remember when silicon chips came out? Little black things with little legs on them? Some were different sizes and some had different numbers of legs, but if they were the same size and had the same number of legs they were the same and interchangeable weren't they? Apparently not.

Batteries are similar to day. They may be the same size and fit physically, they may even have the same voltage and similar charge (Amp hour) capacity, but they may not work for all sorts of valid reasons.

As an example I have a T3i, my wife has a T2i, and our batteries and battery grips seem to work across T2i, T3i, T4i, and T5i. Not the T6i or T6s. So I don't think I'm being screwed by Canon, but if I get an 80D or 7DmkII I would expect to get different batteries and battery grips...

Tech changes, it's a normal fact of modern life unfortunately.

Do all models of Fords or Chevys take the same battery? I think not.
Same with cameras, different models have have different requirements, needing different batteries.
I don't think the camera manufacturers are trying to "stick it" to anybody.

will

It's always an issue. I have 3 used recent Canon Rebels in the store, T5, T5I, and T6s. They all 3 take different batteries yet they are all RECENT model Rebels, same series of camera. Frustrating for sure.

I have the 60D and 6D. I can use the LP-E6 or the LP-E6n with both. I believe that the LP-E6n is a replacement for the LP-E6. Please look at Canon compatibility for specifics.

I was merely trying to convey to the OP that there are models which use the same battery.

So, what's the story for Nikon? How many different battery types across each different product type and sub product family?

From an objective perspective, how does the Nikon battery landscape compare to the Canon battery landscape or any other vendor?

Since you are (supposedly) a trusted industry professional, can you provide a defensible and balanced objective comparison?

Thank you.

Since you are so busy trolling that you cannot research the issue yourself, all current (and past two generations) of Nikon's entry level D3XXX and D5XXX , as well as the Df cameras use the EN-EL 14 battery. All current (and past two generations) semi-pro and pro bodies use the EN-EL 15 battery . D600, D610, D750, D800, D800E, D810, D7000, D7100, D7200, D500.
Simple enough?

Thank you for being gracious enough to answer what was posed as an honest question. I do not thank you for the insult and you are certainly not behaving in a professional manner. You clearly display a vendor bias on many occasions and you damage your own standing and integrity by doing so.

It's your business, but it is clear that you are not impartial, nor are you willing to treat a legitimate question seriously. You may possibly be a reasonable source for Nikon equipment, but clearly not for other brands from your demonstrated bias and irritated responses.

You are as much a troll yourself as many others on this site, and you certainly do not adhere to the same professional standards as a B&H or an Adorama.

You disappointment me, Sir. I thought you were more honorable than that.

Here's my take on this. In my family there are 2 t3i's a 60D, 70D, 80D and a 5DMkIII. Each camera has a battery grip, each battery grip comes with 2 battery cartridges one for OEM batteries and one that uses AA batteries. My son and I have large hands and like the extra gripping area provided. My wife and daughter started out with the grips and have no problem with them. So we chose to use the AA cartridges. So all camera use the same batteries. And yes, we have a good supply of eneloop and now Amazon Basics batteries. I have found that the AA batteries actually last longer than the OEM'S as well as hold up charge after charge. Cost wise the AA batteries are much cheaper. Anyway that is my preference and am pleased with the performance.
