Rather than trying to make something "meaningful" out of it, you should get rid of the guy and just let it be a very nice shot of a lovely girl. On another note, the lighting wasn't very favourable.

Frank I think your trying to mix the general rules of street with family snaps and I aint convinced it can work. A candid shot of family attempting to show "the moment" will probably always look like it should be a 6x4 in the family album. This shot is quite a simple project to pose and set up in good light from a decent stand point.
Tell the audience here what you like about the circumstances but get a good shot first.

Thanks for the thoughts Mr. Spad. I will tell you it's way harder than you think to get little ones to pose. I just saw these two staring and grabbed it. Guess I don't know squat, I rather liked the light.

I do like this one Frank, but I agree I would remove the guy on the lower left but then you would have to rename it.

I didn't know there were general rules to street photography. Get what you can get when you can get it. That's the rule I follow and break them from time to time.

Lovely image. In fact there are two images here. The main subject, the child and the eyes of the adult in the bottom left corner. In my opinion, I would have cropped the child's head so that here eye is in the top, right intersection, quadrant. In doing that, you bring the adult into perspective. His eyes are wonderful as well. My suggestion would crop off much of her hair and bow but that would be okay, IMO. As composed, her hair and bow is the focal point. In cropping, you would create a more balanced image, connecting both subjects and eyes, IMO. I would disagree with cropping the adult out of the image. His eyes add much to the story element. Without him, the image would just be ordinary. A wonderful image in every respect.

Here is what I have interpreted from your description why don't you just post your vision. I am prejudiced to the image as it is a granddaughter, but posted it as an image rather than my grandkid but find people have a hard time getting past that, in the future I shall make more comment.

I would not want to take your image and modify it without your permission. As you stated, your heart/family/grandchild is in it. If I butchered it, I would have butchered your heart. That is just my perspective. As you have cropped it, what do you think? I think the cropped image is powerful with the two subjects. I might also consider black and white for even more drama and emotion.

I like it, yes. Read my signature line Mark. It's really just a lucky snap I managed and I am very tough hearted Mark for future reference.

I'm learning there is often a very line between "nice shot", and a resounding "yeowzuh". Just a little crop can turn a quick snap into a wall-hanger. I've often said that for me, what comes out of the camera is the raw material to attempt to produce something of greatly increased value. Kudos to both Frank and Mark.

This is a nice snap shot filled with memories for you. However as a photograph for public display it has problems. The title suggests that the subjects would be gazing at each other - and that would have worked. In this shot I see the father gazing at the child who is gazing up at her mother. The father is out of focus and not really part of the picture, and the direction of the gaze of the girl is not one that lends itself to a portrait. This is one for the family album, not the wall. She is a beautiful child and I'm sure there will be literally hundreds of opportunities for lovely portraits of her. Enjoy.
