PSE 14 and two new memory sticks help

I am finally moving up to PSE 14, it is arriving today with two new 8GB DDR3 memory sticks. I have four slots in my motherboard (Acer Predator Desktop) and it came with two 4GB DDR3 memory sticks in slots 1 and 2 and the other two slots are currently empty. From reading about it I think that I need to move the two 4GB sticks to the third and fourth slot and install the two 8GB sticks in slots 1 and 2. Or am I better off with removing the 4GB sticks and just running the 8GB sticks in slot 1 and 2?

Memory clock speed on the new 8GB sticks is 1600MHz. I don't know what the clock speed is on the factory installed 4GB sticks is.

If the sticks are not the same speed, the slowest sticks will determine the overall speed if you use all four.
Most boards require matching sticks in set patterns. Slot 1&3, 2&4 or 1&2, 3&4. The speed will be on a sticker on the sticks. Check your manual to see the pairing for installation. Slot numbers are usually printed on the mother board, but often hard to see. If you don't have the manual, go to the site and download the PDF manual. Since memory is cheap, you may want to get two more matching stick and fill her up, but I have found that 16 gig on my system has only come close to maxing out the memory when using Piccure+. That is probably as I only have a 200mb page file set on the HD.

Makes no difference, just equal sizes must be paired as N4646W says. Also, memory speed is dictated by the slowest installed.

I will find out the speeds on my installed sticks once the new ones arrive and I open the computer. I do know that the factory installed sticks are in slots 1 & 2 currently. If the installed sticks are less than 1600MHz then I will leave them out and will place the new sticks in slot 1 & 2. Still trying to figure out where to place all 4 if the speed is the same. Thank you!

It might be that the new sticks are faster than your computer can handle. If that is the case then they will only run as fast as the computer lets them, maybe. They might not work at all.

Norman, I know the ACER product. Started by IBM back when IBM built PCs. I would recommend slots 3 and 4 mainly because they are open. No damage would occur to 1 and 2 which can happen whenever you attempt to remove the sticks. As others have stated, the combination of all 4 sticks will run at the slowest speed installed.

It needs some experimentation to find out what is best for you.
If you don't need swop at 16GB then you may be better not using the 2 4GB sticks if they are slower.
On the other hand if you still use swop at 16GB even if the ram is limited by the 2 x4 GB you may be better to use all 24GB.
I know I would be tempted to buy 2 more of the 8GB and run as fast as possible with 32GB. There is also the possibility of using a Ram Disk for temporary files.

If you power down your computer and take out the battery you can safely remove the the 4gb RAM modules it should say on then there speed or run a free program from the Internet that can give you that information just type free CPU&RAM checker.
I run the same type of RAM in my laptop Toshiba.

Thank you all for the help! I found out that the old sticks were in slots 1 & 3 once I opened it up. I didn't want to take a chance on mixing slower sticks with the newer ones so I only installed the new 8 DDR3 sticks and removed the old ones. I didn't get a huge improvement but my computer seems to be running more smoothly with a slightly faster response time now. Now I need to learn how to use PSE 14. ;)

Shouldn't be a problem to be fair, try it and see usually the worst is it won't boot until you remove the offending ram. If it does work which it probably will you can then add a ram drive and then you should notice a difference.

Go to the crucial web site and let them scan your computer and they will tell you the capacity and what cards fit where... No looking up things by model number... It is pretty automated....
