I do my own printing.

You can also order items online at Costco. I do this frequently; you can save yourself the gas and travel time.

Funny, but I find they compete very well against online only retailers. And Costco has a website from which I frequently order (free shipping) and never have to leave my door. In addition, with my Executive level membership, the cash back certificate I get annually far exceeds the cost of that membership. Whether it's cost effective really depends on what you're buying and how much. Their meat department is first rate. I've never had better steaks. I get high quality printer paper for far less than available elsewhere, as well as much less expensive HP printer ink, which besides it's already competitive pricing occasionally has even lower sale prices. And their top quality and well reviewed Kirkland house branded products are significantly cheaper than their nationally branded competition. As a long term customer, I'm aways amazed by those who avoid using Costco. Unless one just doesn't buy much and the closest Costco is 30 miles away, it doesn't make sense to me. I'm lucky enough to have 3 Costcos within a short distance from my home. The closest is only 2 miles away.

You can justify it by actually shopping there, not just using it for prints. I shop there for many food and pharmacy items, household appliances and casual clothing items, as well as printer ink, batteries, printer paper, computers and printers and thousands of other items. I save a couple of thousand dollars a year compared to buying those same things elsewhere, and they have a terrific and extremely generous return policy. By the way they also sell cameras in kits as well as memory cards.

Also, check to see if your Costco has a gas station. Their gas is usually five cents cheaper than anywhere else you go. So the cost of getter there and back might not be as bad as you think.

I do use Costco and it's just me and my s/o. Their photography processing is far better than Walmart's. You can also use it by mail. I've rarely done that since I'm there once or twice a week anyway but when I did there was no shipping charge. Not sure if that was a special deal or not but Costco OFTEN has no shipping when you buy costco.com.

As for those mentioning the TP - YUP, their Kirkland brand is ALL I use, too. (-:

I've gotten great deals on clothing and shoes there, too, and so much more. Got a Lowepro camera bag there years ago I still use heavily. Have bought cameras and computers there. Even bought a Panasonic Lumix there about 7 years ago, used it for a couple of months and hemmed and hawed and finally decided it was not the right one for me. Returning it was no problem at all.

Love their return policy but hate when people take unfair advantage of it. Get really ticked off when I see people returning Christmas trees after the season is over or food that will have to be thrown away even though there was nothing wrong with it. Once it's purchased it's trash. They cannot lawfully re-sell it.

The decision is yours, of course, but I love Costco.

Love the TP too! Virtually everything with the Kirkland brand is first rate :)

I've had good luck with Walgreens. Had a large print made, turned out excellent. 40-50-% discounts make my day.

I saw on television that Costco is the second largest car dealer in the nation.

I was also told for my own needs that Costco has a very good hearing aid program, particularly pricewise.

Only 5 cents cheaper? Here in central New Jersey I believe the average difference is about 20 cents or so cheaper for regular at Costco. And compared to a number of stations nearest to our interstates, it's closer to 40 cents cheaper per gallon. I use premium fuel. As of right now, the Shell station near I287 is charging $2.80 for premium. The Costco, one mile away is charging $2.13 for premium. That's $.67 less per gallon, or $13.40 less than the Shell station to fill a an empty 20 gallon tank!

I'll be 70 on my next birthday, and with my hearing not as good as when I was younger, I may have to look into that. Thanks.

Save the five minutes and print your pictures. If you travel to take the picture (not you back yard) You strive to take the best picture, work on it to be great and then save time to go to Walmart or the likes of them it make no sense. But we are all camera people, to each his(or hers) own.

I have never been disappointed with prints from Costco. I'm guessing that their printer is at least as good as the desktop variety some have at home. If you print for a business that's great but otherwise keeping all the ink cartridges fresh requires a part time job.

They have reasonable prices on tires too. So after making all those 114 mile round trips you can buy some new tires cheap.

I quite don't understand, if you do your own printing, then you certainly don't want the crap (comparatively) you get from Costco!

I will not shop Walmart or Target for two reasons; I think Walmart's predatory business practices and the way they treat their employees is terrible. I haven't been in a Target since they banned the Salvation Army bell ringers at Christmas time.

Personally, I would take the drive to Costco with my camera in the jump seat looking for photo opportunities on the way, and just enjoy the day and the leisurely drive.

Agree. We live in a town that caters to retirees. My husband went to Costco for his hearing aids because of so many personal recommendations. They were just about half the cost of similar hearing aids from other places. When he soon lost them both on the golf course, they had a one time free replacement. What a savings!

I shop at Costco every other week, great money saving prices. The rebates on my Executive Membership pay for my membership every year.
The part I really like about them is their courteous and helpful staff. Costco's starting wages are above average, most of the workers I see there are the same ones that were there when I became a member 13 years ago, you don't see that too often in the retail business.
By the way I don't use them for photos because I am quite happy with White House Custom Color (doing everything online).

I stopped using all Costco photo services when they discontinued film processing. Also discontinued Walgreen photo services when they started outsourcing film processing but refusing to return processed film, which is all I wanted. I find it inexcusable for a film service to refuse to return processed film. Oh, yeah, Walmart is equally at fault on that score. So screw the lot of them.
