Exxon declared a quarterly profit of $1,800,000,000 for the last three months. While that might sound like a lot of money to some people, it's their lowest profit in 16 years. All the bills were paid, all the salaries were paid, all the research was done, and they had that much left over.

"Profit - the excess of returns over expenditure in a transaction or series of transactions; especially : the excess of the selling price of goods over their cost."

Well you forgot to figure how much was paid out in dividends to investors. Probably $1.75 per share. Without them there would be no company's, no products, and no jobs. So before you complain about capitalism, think about where you would be.

All you anti business people on here need to move to someplace like North Korea and see what it is like when there is no business and everyone works for the state. You people make me sick. You live in the most prosperous country the earth has ever known. You live like a king compared to some in other counties yet you bitch. You don't deserve to live here.

People in the know realize that companies like Exxon need those big profits to keep the secrets of anti-gravity technology kept secret because if the anti-gravity technology were to be released to the public, everyone would realize that carbon fuels would be a thing of the past and we would have no need for paved highways for transportation. Rather, we would ride around off the highway and street surfaces and our vehicles would need no fuel. A magnetic powered motor would never need fuel and the only things that would wear out would be parts such as bearings, other mechanical parts, etc, and there would be no need for tires, brakes, wheels or rims. The current big auto industry as we know it and big oil companies would go out of business.

Google "Dr. Steven Greer" on the subject.. Also, on YouTube..

Congratulations! You have just repealed the laws of thermodynamics, gravity, motion, and most of the physical laws of the universe.

I know that Jerryc41 is up there in the Catskills laughing his ass off at the pissing contest going on, which is exactly why he posted the Exxon profit thing in the first place!
What gets me is the apparent fact that people in this country are more widely divided that ever before in our history, or since before the Revolution when half the colonists were Tories and wanted to stay under the tyranny of King George. Now, the people here who are demonizing private and free enterprise. for-profit businesses, entrepreneurship, and capitalism in general are just astounding! Don't they know that the alternative's end-game is totalitarianism, collectivism and end of private property ownership? Like being a little bit pregnant, it's a slippery slope that can only go one way.
Wake up America!

When big corporations pay their fair share of the taxes they owe, this conversation might be settled. The lawyers and politicos have made a tidy bed for themselves and YOU my friend are paying, NOT them. Can you say 'off shore accounts'???

Can you say "corporate inversion"? How about highest corporate taxes in the industrialized world? When you make a business friendly environment with fewer regulations, and fewer and lower taxes, corporations grow. They innovate, become more entrepreneurial, hire more people and grow. When they hire more people, there are more people with money to spend on new products, spurring more growth and higher wages. What is needed is exactly the opposite of what you think. Lower taxes, create a more friendly business environment and even offer a tax holiday to corporations so they can bring their money being held overseas back home. Then watch this country's economy flourish.

Tell you what......instead of repeating platitudes from "the bern", how about YOU two, is exactly what tax rates you think U.S. Corporations should be paying? Than we can have a real discussion.

For now, let's just all accept the fact the U.S. Has the highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world and our evil corporations employ millions and millions of Americans, making it easier for us to, say, eat and pay our bills.

I don't know, I'd say from 1861 to 1865 this country was definitely more divided than now.

So, criticizing corporate behavior or advocating that they pay their fair share of taxes or criticizing the corruption of our political system and hoarding of wealth by the top causing an extreme gap between rich and poor is akin to "demonizing private and free enterprise. for-profit businesses, entrepreneurship, and capitalism", and therefore "on a slippery slope to totalitarianism, collectivism and end of private property ownership?"

Hyperbole much?

Against, a platitude and not an informative or inquisitive comment. So, I ask you..............instead of repeating platitudes from "the bern", how about YOU two, is exactly what tax rates you think U.S. Corporations should be paying? Than we can have a real discussion.

Did it ever occur to you that part of the widening gap of wealth is caused by the shit economic policies of the progressive movement?

Or of us all raising our kids to think a 35 hour work week is a long week, or that it's okay to take 6 years to complete a 4 year college degree, or that spending more for a degree than the free income it will produce over 10 years is a good idea, or that getting in line to expect free stuff is a good idea?

I'm guessing not.

Exxon made $1.9 billion last quarter and everyone beats up on them but I haven't seen a single post say they quit driving their cars. Google posts a $9.7 billion profit last quarter and not a peep from anyone. I'm happy they are both making profits and "driving" our economy forward. "Capitalism is the unequal sharing of rewards. Socialism is the equal sharing of misery."Churchill.

Yes, funny, isn't it that you never hear them complaining about the obscene profits made by companies like facebook, Apple, and others that provide products that the Wall St. protestors favored. There were more than a few complaints made by them during their occupy Wall St. fiasco that people were stealing their Macs, iPads & iPhones. The hypocrisy was just overwhelming.
