Very nice gesture on the part of the restaurant worker. It reminds me of a joke from way back during the Korean War:
The guy enters the public restroom and approaches a urinal. Another guy comes up to the one next to him with his hands in his pockets. He looks at the first guy and asks him if he would help him out. The guy complies and asks' Korea?'
No, gonorrhea'

That could be a tricky situation, though. I've seen handicapped people get angry when people attempt to help them. This handless man eats somehow in the restaurant every day, so he must have a system.

I had a summer job working on a small cruise ship, and we were told not to help people in wheelchairs. They, or their helpers, deal with that situation 24/7. Employees on the boat had no training, and it's very easy to make a wrong move and dump the person on the ground. I saw some close calls with overly-helpful workers.
