Is she printing to a locally-attached printer (on the same machine), or is she trying to print over the network from another machine?

Click on "start", then "devices and printers". Is your printer shown? If so, right click on the icon and choose "troubleshoot" and follow the prompts. If that doesn't work, let me know, and we'll move to. Another fix - likely need an updated win 10 driver for your printer.

Last evening my wife's computer suddenly "upgraded" to system 10 with no action on her part. This morning I awoke to find my own computer grinding away (at this point it's well past the 3-hour mark) saying "operations are in progress, please wait. The machine will be turned off automatically after the operations are complete." I'm assuming that this is also a forced upgrade to system 10, but 3 hours? Anyone have a suggestion as to what I can do to get my co-opted computer back? I can't believe that this can be legal. Class action suit, anyone?

Once it is installed, Windows 10 works well and I think you will like it.
That said, it does take time to install and I'd advise keeping the machine turned on overnight - maybe even a couple days - before believing it is done installing.
When I installed it, it got to a point where everything seemed to be working, but everything looked different and files were not where I expected them to be. There was no window telling me what was happening, but I thought I would just have to deal with that situation. If this happens to you, give the installation another day to get things straightened out. You will regret it if, as I did, you try to get things back where you want them to be.

I'm with you here.
It wanted my Win7 computer also. In fact, I went into the control panel & turned off the auto upgrades, only to come back, & find that it's back to "on".
Here's a couple of things that could help:
1 Turn your computer off at night.
2 Use your power mgmt to either computer sleep, or standby.
3 Never leave your computer on for lengths of time without checking it for unauthorized upgrading.

I set my windows 7 to not install updates until I select them. That gives me a chance to view each one, and hide the ones I don't want to install. Don't install KB3035583. I have things working the way I like and don't want to mess up any photo files, so will only update when it's necessary to do so.
