If you think that a kit lens cannot cut it....think again.
thanks, makes me feel better about my lenses.
Why is it, a lot of people refer to the "kit lens" with the outlook that they are the "cheaper" and "inferior"... Never could figure that one out..........
Now what am I going to blame my failures on?

OMG.......... Never thought of that ! So thats whats been my downfall all these years.....
so does this mean I should forget about buying that 60mm macro I want and instead just buy a tube for my 18-55 kit lens?
Can someone tell me please what a "kit lens" is? Besides being cheap.
The answer to this is very simple. Its not the equipment that makes a good image, its the person pressing the shutter that does it.

A "kit" lens is just a catch all term for the lenses they bundle with camera packages....i.e. A Rebel t2i with an 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 IS lens.
No biggie.

This has been a point of confusion for me. The kit lenses have to produce good pcitures or people would return the camera. There other lenses that produce equal or better quality than the kit lenses. However, it is really about knowing your equipment and how to use it. I am leanring new things all the time about what my equipment can and can not do. So maybe most of us here on UHH should start answering differntly to people who think that they need to get another lens because all they have is a kit lens.

The kit lenses aren't crap by any means....they just aren't the cream of the crop; that's all. They have features that are easy to produce cheaply; i.e. variable aperture zoom lens with a fairly high minimum aperture.
All of the shots I post on UHH are with lenses purchased on ebay used for under $100.00 and were under $300.00 when new. I would love to have the best glass but I don't. I make due with what I have and am happy with the results.

kit lenses are not always cheap.kit means part of a set,if you check some of the dealers on the net they include a lens,a memory card, a flash, a tripod and a case or tote bag with the camera body.i have seen some dealers offer hi-grade canon bodies with hi-end G glass and flashes.that's a kit and the price reflects the value.
It's referred to as a kit lens because camera retailers will put a "kit" together of a particular camera and lens to make the camera they're trying to sell more attractive to the consumer. Absolutely nothing wrong with "kit" lenses! I have an 18-55 and an 18-105 lens, and i bought both of them separately, because I know they're great lenses for the money.
