Doug Butler & Merle Haggard

From 1964 I owned and ran Kunz Photo & Hi-Fi Center in Ridgecrest, CA.
Doug and I were good friends and each other's customer.
I spent many an afternoon at Doug & Rosie's house with Merle and the Strangers. We recorded lots of the jam session's and I have a reel to reel tape recording of "Irma Jackson" years before it's release.
I could tell you lots of great stories about Merle and his early
days before he became so famous.
We all miss him and Doug.
I see Doug has recently passed on.
My love to Rosie.

Merle is my favourite C+W singer and Irma Jackson is one of my most loved songs - incredible lyrics set to great tune.
I really envy your association - you lucky devil.

Doug Butler owned Desert Motors in Ridgecrest California and he would get a big Lincoln and he and Doug would make flying trips to Las Vegas probably never less than a hundred miles an hour the whole time going.
They also had a big black I think 1950 Ford that they put little train wheels on and he and Merle would get on that railroad track and they would go for miles and miles just drinking beer under the stars and having fun. They were like brothers for years and years and it was a joy to watch them build Merle's early music business.
Merle would always come to Ridgecrest for Doug's big Christmas bash at J.D." night club.
