I downloaded the NIK filters from Google, I installed them and I'm using them. And they are FREE! Some of the photos I've enhanced with them are here . . .

your photos are lovely and inspired me to look at the nik download..did you read your terms of service...do you care?

I'm pretty sure hog has the same rules....you own it but they can do what ever they want with it.

copied here the section that unnerves me.....

Some of our Services allow you to upload, submit, store, send or receive content. You retain ownership of any intellectual property rights that you hold in that content. In short, what belongs to you stays yours.

When you upload, submit, store, send or receive content to or through our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content. The rights you grant in this license are for the limited purpose of operating, promoting, and improving our Services, and to develop new ones. This license continues even if you stop using our Services (for example, for a business listing you have added to Google Maps). Some Services may offer you ways to access and remove content that has been provided to that Service. Also, in some of our Services, there are terms or settings that narrow the scope of our use of the content submitted in those Services. Make sure you have the necessary rights to grant us this license for any content that you submit to our Services.

Sorry - I didn't keep them. Use Photoshop normally and although I am not schooled enough to do everything the NIK filters apparently can do, I am schooled enough to create a pretty decent photo. In other words: I'm not bowled over by these filters, but i do think they are useful for many purposes.
WOW! That sounds a little political eh!!! Anyway, I'm still playing with them. Oh yes, I normally shoot my good work in RAW format. All of the ones I posted were jpegs I believe.

I'm getting to the age where those terms of service agreements are considered worth no more than the space they require to be read on. They are like your home insurance. Covered? Sure! Try to collect . . .

Very nice. Which filter did you use for each photo so we can get an idea of their use. Should post the before and after...Rich

NIK Filters are not applied through a "service"... they are a plug in for Lightroom & PhotoShop.. this pertains to image(s) you upload and use wherever in google services. They can't reach into your personally held images and claim ownership. But if you upload an image lest say to google maps, lets say your personal image, or a business entrance, which comes up on their maps... they can continue to use it without being sued, etc. It would be a full time job for 100's for them to handle lawyers if they didn't have a blanket sort of agreement.
