After seeing Nalu's great photo of mating Killdeers, I was reminded of a set of pictures that I took in February of this year in Rio Largartos, Yucatan. I saw a Lesser Roadrunner (about 2/3 the size of the Greater Roadrunners we typically see in the SW USA) with something in his mouth. Thinking he had caught something to eat, I tried to maneuver for a picture. I lost him for a few seconds but then saw him between some low scrub brush. He still had something in his mouth but soon dropped it. It was then I realized it was not food, but that he had brought a gift (a leaf and flower) for his lady friend. Apparently the gift worked because when I enlarged the pictures I saw the object of his affection. These birds are about 50 feet away, and the photo was taken with a Canon 7D II with a 400 mm/5.6 Canon lens.
