Someone in this group suggested Autostitch.com as a "free" photo stitching program. I decided to try it; here is my experience: rather than "autostitch", it should be called "autoscam". After downloading the program, I had to subject my computer to an also "free" register clean program which "would make my PC run faster". The program proceeded to scan my PC to determine a number of errors: 2013!!! Then came the offer: $29.95 to correct all the problems. I refused it, so they came back with a second offer of $14.95 which I also refused. Every time I booted up my PC, the offer came back. I finally decided to uninstall the program: big mistake; my computer slowed down to a snail pace. I had to restore my PC to an earlier date and still did not get the "free" Autostitch program. Don't fall for this, please.

Try Microsoft's FREE "Image Composit Editor" (ICE) program...

http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/redmond/groups/ivm/ice/.

It's a bit cludgy to use, but the best "stiching" program I've found, and I've tried many.

I use ICE all the time as a quick-and-dirty panorama maker because, as I have said here before, all you need to do is throw some overlapping images at it to get a fast panorama. If you need fine tuning, use Hugin which will also "catch" some images for a fast panorama but can be manipulated in creative ways.

Go immediately and get WinPatrol (http://www.winpatrol.com/), the best thirty bucks you'll ever spend. It can't protect you from everything but it does a great job of protecting you from drive-by downloads.

I also run Vipre from Sunbelt (they got bought by somebody, I can't remember). I've never had to use the service but if you get hacked, they will fix your computer for you.

It's a jungle out there.
