I've not yet seen the number of orders for the previously promised, but never produced, X car (suv). My friend ordered one 3 years ago, but they have never delivered one yet.
I'm not so sure that giving them a deposit for a car over a year out is so smart, 100,000 people just gave them an interest free loan.
Pardon the pun, but what happens if/when politicians pull the plug on the subsidy for electric car buyers? Or, will it become a permanent welfare program like solar cells, wind turbines and ethanol?
Whenever the Government is subsidizing anything that is dangerous.Like all the solar outfits only start up if subsidizing is up front many have went belly up. Electric cars will be the future I think but there will be no middle class either not only is it expensive, but the Gov or states will charge a milage tax that will be huge.I am from the gov and I am here to help LOL.

I believe the subsidy is history; it was limited to a relatively small number of the first hybrids introduced and was used up years ago. We never got it on the Camry and it was gone seven years later when we traded it in on the Avalon.
The day may come when that will be the only car no hybrids but by then they should be able to go 500 miles .

Maybe, if the government like this one is not closing the coal industries completely !!!~ Because it will be very prohibitive to even plug that car and others

I just read, about 15 minutes ago, that preorders are at 198,000.
Maybe I should have preordered one just to resell?

While I am perusing the Ugly Hedgehog - Photography Forum this morning I have the Oakland, CA channel 2 morning news live streaming to my computer. They are featuring a story about the new Tesla Model 3 electric car. The reporter is interviewing a long line of people waiting to pre-order the Model 3 which is supposed to be released sometime next year. You'd think it was a new Apple product that the folks were waiting to purchase. Maybe Elon Musk will be the new Steve Jobs. :)
A Prius is a better deal for me. The combination of gas and battery powered vehicle will give you at least 400-500 miles and will be almost $10,000 cheaper.

SAD!!!! 1) each working HH is paying to the $7,000 Subsidy and often subsidizing their cost of KWs!!!!! 2) on the cold days and the hot days your 200mi/charge drops... oh and it drops at night also......it's called battery power. So be comfortable and see the road and stop to charge more often. A rich person's toy.... sucking on the the welfare t_t. Popular Bad economics for the country.
I think the idea behind the electric car subsidy is that it's better for society if we move away from oil. The subsidy encourages that by lowering the actual cost of the car.
There was an article recently about the very rich not being allowed to the subsidies. I don't know where that applied
